How Long for ING to Welcome You Back as "New Customer"

Just wanted to know if anyone has tried to get the "new customer" welcome interest rates (For the first six months, for new customers, on balances up to $1million)after closing an account.
I am interested in the business optimiser, but really for any account.
I though they would "welcome" me back after 6 months, but when I rung I was told that I can never be a new customer again even if I closed my previous account a long time ago. Is it true?

  • " I rung I was told that I can never be a new customer again even if I closed my previous account a long time ago."

Unless they've blatantly lied to you, you've got your answer.

  • I think they may have lied. I vaguely remember reading on a post on OzBargain some time ago that after 6 months you would qualify for the 5% ING Orange rebate again. That same criteria should apply, but they probably don't want to publicise it.

    • Yeap, according to an OzB poster at about Nov/Dec 2013 from memory, ING said six months directly to the person over the phone, it will be in past posts. I just past six months myself, so waitin' for my 75 bucks ing…

  • +1

i'm speculating here, but i think it will be something like 7 years. basically the time they required to keep your financial records for.

  • There was no waiting period when my first 5% rebate ran out. I had them close my account and I opened a new one and got the 5% rebate again.

    • o_O I was a new customer in the last month, only 2% for me.

Are there any good offers at the moment?

I might get my mum to signup.

      • you didnt get 5% becuase the deal wasnt offered at that time.
