Suggestions for a Phone Reader

Hi

I like reading on my phone while taking public transport, waiting for stuff, and even sometimes in bed. So I am thinking of getting a phone that is more suitable for reading. My main concerns for now are the cost, good for me eyes, low reflections.

Any suggestions please.

  • Not available until a few months, or even a year in Oz, but the Yota 2 phone has two screens. eInk for reading on the back.

But for now, I'd just get a kindle, they fit in my jean pocket. Lasts 2 weeks. Phone will drain much quicker.

Put reader in night mode perhaps.

But getting artificial light after 8 or 9PM is not good for sleep health.

I used to have a stack of books going concurrently and would take the smallest thinnest lightest book I wanted to read and take that with me on train commutes etc.

Can get the Penguin Classics from library and other thin compact ones like it.

Yota 2 is outrageously expensive though. Assuming it comes over here, it will sell for at least $800+

You might as well buy a Kindle along with a regular smartphone.

      • Agree 100%.

But if you've got the cash and don't want two devices but absolutely love reading like I do, it's a no brainer.

Hopefully the next version comes out within a year and the 2 is under $500 ;-p

    Something with an OLED screen.
    ie Samsungs…
Read in "Night mode" during the day, white text on black screen. OLED uses no power for a black screen.
For reading in bed, I change the colours for "day mode" to be Maroon/Red text on Black.. Red is easy to see and gentler on the eyes in a dark room.

  • Thanks guys. Looks like the best option for me is to buy a kindle.
