The best a man can get.

Have tried out the Phillips 3d and multiple Brauns including their top of the range one

But if you buy anything electronic from Amazon it's American and this is 110v. I'm sure it's fine if you've got a certified plug adapter for at least $10 or so, but just something extra to need/get.

Every new home should also have a 110v outlet in bathroom.

Shavers are invariably universal power. either auto-sensing or by switch.
And the US models are far cheaper than the Australian equivalent.

I've read that foil shavers like the Panasonic and Brauns are good for thin, straight hair. wheras the Phillips rotary's are better for coarser/curly hair.

Oh didn't know that was the case. Thanks.

Interesting to know. Perhaps a Philips is the go for 'manscaping' ;-p but I'm sure the others can handle the balls just fine. ;-p

It makes sense.. they're a gadget that you take travelling and have been so for decades.

Probably not a good idea to be manscaping..
I have been waiting for my Braun to die to make the change cause my head hair is curly and my beard has no grain… so shaving with a foil or blade takes forever and involves passes from at least 4 angles just to clip the majority of hair.
A rotary cuts from all angles by its nature, so supposedly would cut faster and requires fewer passes, therefore less razor burn.

        • @scubacoles: Oh, was thinking manscaping below the belt but realised it's a term actually usually for the face.

          Whoops.

  • I've had the Braun 360 Complete 8985 model since release (~8 years I think) and it's been rock solid since day 1. Daily shaving, weekly beard trim. Replace the foil once per year (~$25) and refill the cleaning cartridges with rubbing alcohol (~$25/year).

Not sure how their recent models are, but if they've improved on the model I'm using then it's worth checking them out! While they're a bit above your budget, IMO in the long run it's worth the investment.

    • I also have a high end Braun (Activator) from ~10 years ago… the beard trimmer broke last year, but otherwise works fine.

If you ask me, stick to a good blade, use a brush and shave stick like the old days, you can't get better. not sure if the hardware has improved in 10 years but I was never able to get as good a shave with any contraption.

I'd go so far as getting a good single blade shaver. I find them better and longer lasting than these 4 and 5 blade gimmicks

    • ha ha old is gold :p

  • Set of Wahl clippers is almost ten years old and still going strong. Trimming is where it's at.

  • I've had Braun, Panasonic and Norelco\Philips over several decades and switching from foil to rotary works pretty well at first, but after 8-12months your hair grows differently and shaving takes longer. I had a $360 Panasonic (it came with a bulky power cable, not ideal for travel and when the cable broke with normal use I discovered a replacement cable would cost well over $100 new models are similar), Braun's self-cleaning system is good, but nothing any waterproof model can't do under a tap\shower.
My current shaver is the Sensotouch 2D, which has lasted pretty well for under $100 from Amazon.

  • How close of a shave do you like ?

The Panasonic range of shavers is very good in my opinion but if you like having a slight bit of stubble I can personally recommend Vs sasson which has a 5 year warranty and options to select how close of a shave you'd like
