[StartHere] MoneyBackCo Hotel Bookings

Hey Steve,

I noticed Eight Hotels Australia offers 7% moneyback. I'm just wondering how it works.

Most of their hotels have online booking facilities, and so they are just like normal internet purchase transactions.

eg.
http://www.kirketon.com.au/index.html
http://www.pensione.com.au/
http://www.diamant.com.au/

But for the Altamonet Hotel (http://www.altamont.com.au/), it doesn't have the same online booking facility as other hotels. You have to fill in details and submit a form and they will get back to you, with no credit card details needed. (http://www.altamont.com.au/form/book_a_room.html) Does it mean that it wouldn't have the 7% moneyback?

Thanks,
Alan

  • Hi Alan,

Well they certainly list the Altamont in their program description and there are no T&C's excluding bookings for it, so I don't see why not.

Let me try and fire a question off to them via the affiliate network for you, I must warn you though merchants tend to be less than responsive in our experience to these approaches, but we can only but try.

    Cheers, Steve.

    • Hi Alan,

      We've had a response from Eight Hotel's:

"The Altomont doesnt qualify for commissions as payment cannot be made online and Eight Hotels wont track commissions for it sorry…only the Kirketon, Pensione and Cosmopolitain are commissionable sales. Thanks."

  • Steve,

Another question if you don't mind.

With travel.com.au, do we get moneyback when we book a domestic hotel? Or does it only apply to flights?

    Thanks,
    Alan

    • Question sent for you Alan…

      Will keep you posted.

      Cheers, Steve.

      • Hi Steve,

It looks like the answer is no. I booked a hotel stay the other night from travel.com.au (who is pretty much using Lastminute.com.au's system) because they have the cheapest price. The transaction didn't show up on MoneyBackCo like other transactions. I'm not complaining though, I was always gonna book with travel.com.au for that particular hotel on that particular night anyway since it is the cheapest.

Btw, a few hotels now have a lowest price guarantee or reserve the cheapest price for themselves. Looking at the hotels' own websites can often get you a better deal. Out of the three hotels that I booked for my upcoming trip, two of which were booked directly from the hotels. The other one was a "mystery hotel" from lastminute.com.au, whose identity is easily identified beforehand.

Thanks Steve, and keep up the good work with MoneyBackCo. I'm not a frequent online purchaser but recently had $22 paid out to my bank account with $10 still tracking. Not a huge amount but is money that I wouldn't otherwise have. And I didn't really have to do anything extra, just purchase per usual and got the moneyback a few months later.

        Alan

        • Hi Alan,

I never did hear anything back from them, so thanks for the update.

          Cheers, Steve.
