Bluetooth Speaker Specs – which is better?

Hi

I am just comparing two Sony wireless bluetooth speakers, being the SRS-X2 and SRS-X3. The X2 is the cheaper and smaller of the two.

On the Sony website, the specs are given as:

SRS-X2

Speaker System: 2-channel bass-reflex speaker system
Speaker System (Satellite): 2 full-range speakers
Power Output: 10W+10W (using USB power supply)
Speaker (Diameter): 45 mm
Speaker Impedance: 8 ohm

SRS-X3

Speaker System: 2-channel passive radiator speaker system
Speaker System (Satellite): 2 full-range speakers + 2 passive radiators
Power Output: 10W+10W
Speaker (Diameter): 34 mm
Speaker Impedance: 4 ohm

I'm not a very technical person, but to me it looks like the cheaper SRS-X2 has better speakers, which strikes me as odd. Is this correct? Can someone who knows a bit about sound systems confirm or correct this assumption?

Thank you :)

  • Better yet, budget? I know for sure there is a bluetooth dongle from logitech that cost $49 and you can get a 2.0 speaker set for <$99.

To pick from the two, it seems from the specs you listed that S2 has bigger drivers and higher Ohm (which can be a good and bad thing, but since it is minor, it is negligible). There may be some features on the S3 that the S2 doesn't have or vice versa, so I can't say for sure which is better.

  • Hey Paco.

Bought one of each recently, the X2 and X3 sound quite similar in terms of volume. The X3 gives you more pronounced bass/low end, at the sacrifice of some minor distortion at max volume. The battery is 7 hours (tested)

The X2 is built more rugged in my opinion, and is much more compact. Sound is like someone just cut off the bass on the X3, but it's still pleasant sounding. Battery life is 5 hours (also tested myself).

If you listen to alot of bassy music (electronic music, dance, "urban"), then the X3 is worth the extra dosh.

    • Interesting, thanks for that. Surprising given the X2 seems quite a bit smaller?

      • Yeah, the x2 is alot smaller physically. The extra space for the X3 is mainly taken up by the passive radiators that give the speaker it's extra low end oomph.

  • Bear in mind too that both these speakers will auto power down after about 15min if bluetooth source of music is turned off or goes out of range. I got the X2&X3 combo deal a few weeks back but returned them because of that missing feature and got the X5 & X2 deal instead. The X5 can be left in standby so it's always at the ready to play without need to first turn on power or use NFC.

Considering the small size of these portable player, the sound is quite impressive. There's a fellow on youtube who does several side by side sound comparisons of different players which helped me decide what to get.

  • looking to buy this bluetooth headphones from Binglee, is it worth it? and does BLE stand for 'Bing Lee Electronics'?? anyone know? can't seem to find any reviews on the net anywhere…

    • You might get a better response asking this in the forum. However, it does look like BLE is Bing Lee's home-brand. (Eg, packaging design for "BLE Bing Lee Australia")

      • thanks Thrift , i just had a knack that it's one of those 'Made in China' electronics LOL

  • +1

If you haven't already bought - get them both :)

Sony is still doing Summer promo until 25th Dec. Buy the X3 and get X2 for free: http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/summerofsony/
