AUD to EURO help

Hey all.

I fly out 22nd December for a Euro honeymoon.
I need to know whats the best way to convert my AUD to EURO?
I have a Qantas cash card, ANZ saving, ING savings & AMEX Cc.

I'd prefer a card to use daily, then withdraw cash if needs be, But would like the option of withdrawls abroad.

I'm a tight ass and i'm looking to save money where i can.
Mostly everything but food, drinks and some entertainment has been pre paid already so i do need access to cash and the ability to use my card (if cheaper)

Any advice is appreciated.
Love to all Ozbargainers and your times given helping our community.

Edit: thank you all for the advice. I'm trying for citibank but doubt i'll see a card before i go…

Get a Citibank Plus transaction account.

It comes with a Visa debit card which you can use for withdrawals and purchases. The account/card has no fees at all, no currency exchange fee, and it uses the raw Visa foreign exchange rate so you're getting the best exchange rate possible.

Have fun on the honeymoon! ;)

edit: Just saw that you're flying out on the 22nd? I think you've left it too late to get any new card set up…Citibank account takes at least a week to setup and for them to mail the stuff out.

    • Damit! Yeah i'm shit at pre organisation!

Get a 28 Degrees Mastercard and use it for purchases (not cash withdrawals) abroad - They also charge no conversion fees on purchases, and it's a card only that doesn't require a transaction account. $2000 / month standard limit (but you can transfer more money in once you've spent some)

May be too late to apply and receive the card by now though.

ING Direct withdrawal fees overseas are OK and better than other major banks like CBA.

    Commonwealth Bank Travel Money Card.

Costs $15 and you can get one in branch with just one visit. No conversion fees and $0 transaction fees. ATM withdrawal fees are only $3.50 AUD.

Also don't bother using currency exchangers especially in western countries in Europe and all airports. Including fees, when I went overseas they wanted around 25-30% of my offer because their conversion rates are extremely inflated. $200AUD of my money for I think it was around $145AUD of theirs

    • Thank you

  • Stick with the Qantas Cash card. I've used it in Europe. It's fantastic and you earn Qantas Points as well, plus cheap ATM withdrawals.

    • Thank you

exchange rate is worst mate, i might good using this card if you believe aud is going down to hill, it seems like you pegged your currency when you loaded the card.

if you compare apple to apple their exchange rate has wide spread between buy and sell price, in average 300-800 points (3-5 cents per $100, or you are loosing on the spot your currency value 3-8% of your face value).

      • Hmmm.
        I love lamp.
        Thank you.

  • In the end i'm trying with citibank buy have Qantas cash card as a backup.
