Samsung Home Theatre System

Hi everyone,

A few years ago I bought a Samsung TV and Home Theatre system (samsung ah64 05291b). The Home theatre receiver is also a Blu-ray player, but recently broke. It is out of warranty and was quoted locally over $300 to fix the transformer inside it. I don't really want to spend that to fix an old system, seeing as I can buy a new system for $275:

I just thought I already have the 6 speakers so just need a new player/receiver, so my question is:

1) Is there a standalone player/reciever compatible with my current speakers

2) Is it just worth buying a whole new home theatre system (such as the one above)

Thanks!

  • and you are looking at buying another Samsung? there are more durable products on the market.

  • Not necessarily Samsung. I don't want to spend too much, and figured seeing as I already have the speakers it would be sustainable to get a new receiver rather than the whole lot—- which is my question. I just wondered whether it would be better to buy a new receiver or whole new setup

  • If your current speakers are ok I would be looking for just a reliable amp that has interface capabilities with your tv and speakers. Take the impedance specs of your speakers with you when looking around.
This time of the year there could be some good specials on complete systems too…. Either way, just go for the best bang for the buck but with something that will last more than 13 months :-(

  • What brand would you suggest?

    • Onkyo, Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon are all good brands and you should be able to find low-end receivers in your budget.
