not necessary, you can buy US PSN store card from Amazon / eBay / pcgamesupply etc.

If you do decide to go the US PSN store route, buy US PSN store cards from ebay or locally.
I bought a PSN card from Amazon, which required a US address (real), phone number (real) and though I was able to use my CBA CC, I had to screw around a lot.
Annoyingly the US PSN allows you to use Paypal which the AUS PSN does not.

You can buy PSN credit from Amazon without a real address or phone number. Are you buying a physical card that needs to be delivered? Don't do that.
Don't buy from ebay either. The sellers are charging a markup. They are just buying it from Amazon themselves and reselling the key.
Nope, bought a digital PSN code from Amazon.
Logged in after about a week and ended up having to call Amazon support because my account was flagged. Account had never been used for anything else, legit email address and real address (not mine though)
Had a fake phone number and ended up having to dance around tracking down the number I used and was a huge pain in the ass for a $20 or $30 code.
Ebay can be good if you get a discount code, but its not like you don't pay markup at PlayAsia or other sites anyway, and with the conversion rate even Amazon Digital codes are marked up considerably, the only real reason to go to the USN PSN is game availability or PSX/PS2 back catalog which the AUS PSN continues to lack.
@Telios: Yeah good point with the exchange rate. I don't buy digital games anymore.
I think the reason you might have been flagged was that your account had not been used for anything else. If you'd made purchases before it would probably have been less suspicious.
I used my Borderlinx (freight forwarder mail) and phone number, no problems. But other people on OZB buy US exclusive digital stuff all the time from amazon and all they needed was fake details.
I buy US PSN cards from Amazon all the time. The first took a couple of minutes to process but now when I purchase, the code is available on the screen I'm redirected to immediately after the transaction. So once it's set up, it's incredibly easy.
If you have an AMEX card, that will work. It's what I use.
