IT Luggage World's Lightest 56cm Case 1.4kg for $64 (Save $105) - Strandbags

240

There was some discussion about the recent COTD: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176733
Though a better price, that luggage was a hefty 3.63kg (described by marketing: super lightweight).

Credit to Logical for pointing this deal out there, and for johninmelb giving some background: "but it was 40% off RRP, and was the cheapest I have seen it in the time I have been looking for this specific bag."

Note: the $64 is only for blue and red. The black appears to be $89.10.

Beware, I had one of these but it fell apart after only 2 trips! (Both to the US for 7 days).
Yeah it sure is light, but it comes at a cost!

Certainly looks pretty flimsy in the photos. Is this brand ('It Luggage') well recognised? Never heard of it before.

      • I have a set of IT Luggage hard cases that have been on 30-40 flights and not suffered any damage apart from some scratches. Not sure about this model but as a brand they have been good for me.

Hi Rookie, was that as carry on, or did you check it in?

I hadn't heard of IT Luggage before either, but Logical said they were a good brand.

      • Checked in mate, it's very thin (thus why so light) & I'm not sure if the US is particularly rough on luggage but mine ended up with 2 large holes, duct tape ftw!

It's sold as CARRY ON luggage yet you chose to check it in?\

@Maverick-au: I'm not sure if you've flown much in the US but most flights that I've been on run out of overhead space on domestic flights & make a lot of people check in their carry-on at the gate. So no, I didn't CHOSE to check it in but had to

They come with a 10 year warranty. How did claiming on that go?

      • +8

The problem with the so called 10 year warranty thing is that no one covers damage during transit through the cargo bays etc when you're off on a plane. It completely baffles me as to how they (by they I mean all luggage companies) can claim a bajillion year warranty but excludes damage during transit which is exactly the #1 reason why we buy luggage in the first place.

On another note, any Costco frequenter care to chime in how much they cost at Costco? I think they sell them as a 2 piece set for $75 at Costco.

        • Yep, it was all due to the transits, the baggage handlers are rough! I only have my clothes/toiletries & shoes in my case but I don't think these are that durable tbh, wouldn't recommend on international trips with multiple layovers (unless you pack duct tape ;) ).

        • +2

I thought the airlines themselves are supposed to cover damage to the luggage itself (probably not what's inside) when you check it in? I've always been told by frequent travelers to check luggage for any damage the instant you take it off the belt, and take it straight to baggage services if anything wrong.

handle is a utter pain (continues to get stuck pulling in or out) invest in something better.

I have mutiple sets of IT Lugguage and all are fine, been using them for years.

  • has anyone bought it for 64?
At the payment page it adds 16.95 for me although I'm selecting store pickup.

EDIT: I took risk and finally it seems to have charged 64.

I always find the price of luggages in oz way over priced. You better off save the money to buy extra cabin kgs, get luggages and clothings etc in destination countries and bring them home on return trip and feel great about your bargain shopping.

With weight limits being enforced, a wheeled carry-on is a bad idea, IMHO
You can get a 40l carry-on backpack that is comfortable, easy to carry and will not break.
Wheels and frame add too much weight (or are too flimsy in this case) for carry-on.

    • Amen!

  • +2

I've been using a set of these, for international travel, for the last 8 years; and they have lasted really well.
The frame & skin (on mine at least) are quite strong.

The brand "IT Luggage" is just the brand name that is being used now.
    Previous names have been:
    - World's Lightest
    - Sub 0 G
    - Zero G
    - Landor & Hawa

I looked at these a few weeks ago, at Costco, as I wanted to get a set for my partner; and please note that the bag itself is actually a 48cm bag (ie. Carry on size) not 56cm. The 56cm measurement includes the feet to the top of the handle (when retracted).

That being said, $64 is still a good price for the 48cm version. Providing the quality hasn't dropped since I bought my set.

    • So what's the price in costco please?

    • Agree. I bought a set of Sub 0 G many years ago on Ebay. When I got them I didn't think they'd last because they looked flimsy compared with luggage I'd had before.

The carry on still looks like new. The large bag has been subject to multiple murder attempts by baggage handlers judging by the marks on it but it is still structurally sound.

They are amazingly light. I hope the quality hasn't dropped because I couldn't be happier with mine.

  • Here is the link for the Amazon reviews of this case:
    http://www.amazon.com/IT-Luggage-Worlds-Lightest-It-0-1/dp/B…

I personally use a light Samsonite case that is slightly heavier than this one (about 2kg I think) which I got when DJs or Myer was having a 40 or 50% discount on suitcases. It has been a great case.

  • Is it strong enough for international trip, we are going for Vietnam trip in Jan and looking for small size luggage, thanks.

  • no way. it's not nice and doesn't fit a lot, handle is awkward very flimsy. for luggage, worth it to pay a bit more.

    • thanks, is there any good brand for your recommendation from Strandbag, they are doing huge discount, cheers

      • best to go to luggage store and check them out. decide on the model you want and find the best price online.

        • +2

I think if you go to a luggage store to check out their stock, it's a bit low to then go buy it online elsewhere.

But otherwise a agree with your sentiment. I currently have a Samsonite B-Lite 48cm carry on, which I think is only about 2kg but I haven't had any issues with quality. But I definitely wouldn't check it in and expect it to survive well.

  • Saw this type luggage at Target yesterday. Half price - can't recall if the same brand. The handle is different - it doesn't retract as normal. Handle goes in and out of the bag. It does feel very light

  • As some may know tiger and scoot carry on are 54cm x 38cm x 23cm.

So theoretically at 56cm this bag is too big for scoot and tiger carry on. (Although, it prolly isnt a problem)

(Ive been using 1.7kg http://www.strandbags.com.au/luggage/flylite-microlite-iii-1… for many trips with no deterioration problems; no longer available)

  • Red and blue are probably better (than black) for identification on the baggage carousel, also less chance someone else will take it by mistake.

  • Costco currently sell the set of two for $80, one is the carry on size and the other is the larger one. Great deal considering that's the price you pay for just one at Strandbags. I love the light weight ones because we tend to carry a lot of luggage so it's been really beneficial in saving luggage space. Fabric does feel flimsy but we've used it a few times now with no hassles.
