Shaver Shop Air Washer

I recently bought the Cli-Mate Air Washer from the Shaver Shop. Have had it going for days but I just don't think it does anything. The water seems to stay clear. I would have thought that over time, the water would start to look a little dirty or foggy. Has anyone used this product and if so, do you think it is making a difference to the air.

  • ahaha never buy anything that advertises itself as "as seen on tv". ever.

water will take a while to get dirty anyway.

Thanks. I will give it a chance and see how it goes.

  • I use this Breathe thingo which has cool LED lights show too. Got it on TVSN for $99 (with 4 tiny sample bottles). It's from Singapore, the 'water based' fragrant oils are fairly pricey. $30 for little 300mL 250mL bottle. But I put other oils in sometimes, and only buy their ones when they're $19.50.

Water gets dirty after about 24 hours of first use in a fairly dusty home. It has a fan on top to help circulate the air etc.

I prefer it as a humidifier on drier days, say around 30 to 40% RH I'll definitely put it on. But at nights it's fun to see lights on ceiling. And if you can't really open doors/windows for fresh air on hot or cold days put some of the oils in to freshen up the aroma of the house.

Haven't seen Cli-mate product. How much is it?

The Breathe one has around a 500mL or so water capacity and lasts a day or so depending on air movement volume and humidity. Then throw it out and rinse (clean if slimy) then refill.

      Thank you for the information.

Here is the link for the Cli-mate. Not sure if I copied correctly but here goes:

      http://www.cli-mate.com.au/products/desktop/air-washer

I believe it is exclusive to Shaver Shop and cost $129.95.

The one you purchased looks good. Are you seeing any health benefits from it?

I have had the Cli-mate on for 3 days now and the water still looks clear. Will see how it goes but if I am not happy, will return it and may buy one like yours.

You may be able to use essential oils in the water rather than fragrant ones. If you do, only a few drops will do the job.

      • Oh yeah I use pure EO, the fragrant ones are useless and artificial and most would very likely be harmful if not counterproductive.

However my primary use for it is humidifier of sorts and it's fun to see how dirty the water can get sometimes. Not sure how much dust and pollen is in the house but maybe that's what it is. Not sure there are any good pollen detectors for home/personal use but that might be much better ;-p

Also the light show is fun.

The Cli-Mate is much better design, it's smaller footprint but still has enough water it seems to last all day and the light show is integrated. Breathe is seperate and the cord is just long enough to flip lid off and over, but needs space to sit by the base upside down and it gets a bit greasy/soapy type film on air holes.

The fan on Breathe is bigger, so would have a higher rate of volume movement, but that comes with the size and wattage etc. So Cli-Mate is great for portability, moving room to room and on travels but Breathe is good for one spot. So I might check this Cli-Mate out in the Shaver Shop. I'm sure there are copies on eBay. I wouldn't be surprised if SS has actually copied the original.

14W vs 3.5W and not sure of capacity of Breathe, might be 600mL also. ~~Maybe it's more as it's bigger. ~~ Actually they're the same size! Yikes. And weigh around the same.

Do they sell the oils too? I'm sure they're cheaper. The Breathe one likes the claim they're a premium type brand but they don't say if they're cold pressed organic.

        • I use EO in the Cli-Mate. It comes with eucalyptus in the box but I haven't used it yet as I have my own oils at home. I love them. I buy base cream, shampoo and conditioner, then put my own oils in. So nice to use.

I don't think that Shaver Shop sell the oils but most pharmacies sell them and if you are in Melbourne, there is a great place in Hallam that sells everything you may need to make your own products. It is easier than you think.

Oops, I've gone off the subject.

        • @what: Forums are open to discussing anything.

If I'm ever in Melbourne I'll check out this place in Hallam.

Yeah I like DIY and personal handmade stuff. Fun, great value and you learn new things and skills.

Edit: thanks for link, will check out this Auroma store.

You are right. Handmade also has much less nasty ingredients therefore much better for you. Below is a link to the shop I mentioned:

  • I like http://newdirections.com.au for bulk homemade ingredients stuff. They might be a leader, don't know of any other stores that do a range like they do and at good service and prices.

      newdirections looks great. Thank you.

      • Welcome. Yeah it's pretty cool. Just wish I could rangle my family and friends in to it to split bulk orders! ;-p Good discounts for bulk.

  • Ecol from coconut oil looks interesting http://www.auroma.com.au/ecol-dishwashing-liquid/

http://www.auroma.com.au/ecol-soap-powder/ for clothes I wonder how this compares to EcoEgg ceramic balls.

  • Used the dishwashing liquid once. Just added some EO to it. Have not used the laundry soap but all worth a try. You are right about getting someone else to share the products with. Bulk purchases are much cheaper.

  • Would you recommend this product?

I am thinking of buying one for my bedroom as I suffer from hayfever.

It does remove some dust from the air but not like a real air purifier.

It has a small bowl so you can imagine that the air being sucked in is not too much, so it would take a long time to clear the air in a room. Whilst the air is being cleaned, more air is coming into the room.

Not sure if it can assist with hayfever as I do not think that the air in the room can ever become clean.

After using it for a while now, I have seen that the water does become foggy after a number of days of use. There are even times that a small moth is found in the water.

It does put out some noise but not too much.

It can be used as a nice night light too.

You may be better to put the money towards a more thorough air purifier.

      Good luck.

Hi cupcake. I have edited my comment slightly. But still providing same type of feedback.

      • Thank you very much for the feedback.

I think I will just spend more and get an air purifier. I had a look at two models at Myer but they seem a little too big for my room. About a metre in height. Around $350.

I did some research online but noise seems to be an issue with the bigger machines.

I would like cleaner air and it says a 60% reduction in dust particles and pollen in the air. I don't have pets so no pet hair in the air.

My doctor says to move house but it's not that easy! Still, it's difficult having a runny nose, itchy/sore/swollen eyes every day.

I'm also high on vitamin c tablets which helps.

I noticed that Harvey Norman sell it for $99.95 just in case you want to give it a go anyway.

      • Thank you again. I will have a look at it next time I walk past the store.
