AV Receivers

Hi,

I'm Looking to buy a receiver. Got a budget of around $1000. I want it to do 4k in the future so it has to be HDMI2 and hdcp 2.2(I think) compliant.

The onkiyo 636 stands out but I have heard a lot of bad stuff about them in recent years. And whats with having fans???

There is a Sony 1050 which looks pretty good but I don't believe it is hdxp 2.2 compliant.

Anything else around?

Cheers

  • I've heard bad things about Onkyo lately also but all I can say is that I REPLACED my Sony with an Onkyo after the centre channel died and am far happier with the quality of the Onkyo.

Sorry I don't have anything else.

    • Did you get a 636? can you hear the fans?

  • Can you hold off for 6 months? Haven't looked for a while but when I was researching 4K receivers the consensus was that mid 2015 will see quite a few new 4K/HDCP2.2 compliant models in Europe at least.

    • I think you are right. It looks like they just aren't very common yet.

I think waiting will be the best choice so I don't get feel the need to replace it again in a year or 2..

  • Just to update this thread,…..

I held off and got a Denon AVR-X2200 last weekend which has HDCP 2.2. Even got $300 off by dumb luck as Harvey Norman happened to have 20% off on AV on the day I went to buy it. Winning.

Anyhow, I am VERY impressed so far!!! Sounds amazing. Love it.

Thanks for the advice. Worked out well!
