Need Help - LG G3 Lost in Shipping

Hi All,
Need some help or advice.

Long story short, bought a LG G3 from DWI. Was shipped by DHL who passed it onto Aus Post to deliver to me here in Sydney.

It has been nearly a month since the purchase has been made, and now it's been officially deemed lost by DHL.

Now DWI has advised that DHL will only compensate 25AUD which is ridiculous because the phone is worth over $500.

I didn't purchase shipping insurance at the time and DWI are saying because of this there's nothing they can do.

I bought the phone via paypal using a credit card, and have lodged a dispute with Paypal and with my bank.

Is there anything else I can do to get my money back?

Need help!

Thanks

Either reverse your CC charge (prob a bit too late), or do as you say, Paypal dispute this. They will take care of DWI for you.

Anyway, unless you've requested this, DWI have pulled a dodgey on you, they've illegally marked the customs value of the phone for $25, that's why you're only getting $25 from DHL. You also don't need to 'purchase' insurance, because DHL should've provided some sort of basic insurance ($200?) by default.

    • Are you sure that the $25 offered by DHL is not their standard maximum compensation rate for uninsured items? AP has such a limit… not sure of their $ rate though.

      • I'm not sure, these are just my thoughts. Take what you will.

But $25 seems a tad small, even AP provides $100 for uninsured but 'registered' (trackable) parcels, which is what this DHL shipment is.

        • This is no longer the case(?)

Registered post previously came with $100 insurance when you buy the label, now the cost of the label has gone up and the $100 insurance has been removed completely. Insurance is only applicable if you purchase as an extra feature. This happened sometimes last year IIRC.

The only thing that I can find with the $100 insurance as the standard is registered post for domestic letters.

    • DWI have not pulled a dodgey, they despatched the phone via DHL, and that is where their responsibility ends. DHL and other carriers, such as Australia Post, have a limited amount for compensation. In this case, $25, this is NOT an amount specified by DWI. Extra coverage is available at a cost.

"You also don't need to 'purchase' insurance, because DHL should've provided some sort of basic insurance ($200?) by default." completely WRONG. You will find DHL, TNT & others are not COMMON CARRIERS and their loss is limited to the refund of freight paid. Unless you pay for insurance.

You were offered insurance, but refused to take it. Your roll of the dice and you lost. DWI have fulfilled their contract with you, your issue now is with DHL. As carriers, insurance cover must be purchased; no insurance - no compensation.

Paypal should NOT refund you, DWI did supply the phone. As long as they have proof of postage, they are in the clear.

      • they despatched the phone via DHL, and that is where their responsibility ends.

No, their responsibility ends when the customer receives what they have paid for, in good working order, and after any warranty expires. DWI is as dodgy as the day is long. When I had to lodge a Paypal claim after they deliberately sent me and others a different phone to what we ordered, and they weren't forthcoming with a refund, they lied to Paypal about having received it back from me. Fortunately I had emails from them to the contrary.

Hi Plmko. Thanks for the advice. Yes, it looks like DWI have pulled a dodgey on me.

They were not helpful at all as well. Basically saying it's not there problem.

I have contacted the bank for claim for item not received.

I hope this is enough to get my money back. Don't know what else I can do.

    Thanks

Honestly it is not DWI's problem. How could it be so?
When DWI gave the item to DHL to deliver to you, from that time on DWI had no control over what happened. DWI have no liability whatsoever.
You had the option of taking insurance.
Best to try for compensation from your CC or PayPal.

How has DWI pulled a dodgey on you? - they offered insurance on the parcel and you did not accept.

  • My understanding is that Paypal will refund you the amount. The skim 3%~ off every transaction so that is your insurance.

  • Ya trust Paypal, they'll get it sorted out. What an annoying situation, I know the feeling.

  • Thanks all. Yeah it's been so annoying and frustrating for me.

Purchased heaps of stuff online and never had this problem before.

  • I purchased one from DWI too and it arrived in a couple of days. DWI declare the value at the purchased price so really there is nothing they can do, DWI do their part by offering insurance so DHL is responsible if you purchased that. If not then the best you can try do it paypal/bank dispute. IMO DHL should be the blamed party and responsible for any compensation, or of course Paypal's built in guarantees might get you sorted.

  • You'll be covered with Paypal. I had the same thing happen with the same phone, it just never got to me once it arrived in the care of Australia Post.

Insurance is a waste of money as the seller needs to prove you received the item and if they can't its refunded to you, don't sweat it, you'll get your cash back.

  • Thanks Mattycee. Gives me some hope
