Gearbest G1W-C Faulty Dash Cam

Hi OzBargainers,

I got my G1W-C dash cam from Gearbest about 7 months ago and at first it worked just fine. The problem now is that the dash cam sometimes gets stuck on the Welcome loading screen and other times it gets stuck on a green or grey screen. I've tried resetting the camera a few times but with no luck getting it to work.

You can see the problem here in this video: http://youtu.be/vGRg2mRpldw

I've contacted Gearbest requesting for a replacement as it is under their 1 year warranty. They first asked me to pay $8 USD shipping fee to get a new replacement which I agreed to and paid. Then I was later informed the customer representative made a mistake and it should be half the price I originally paid so I have to pay an extra $12 USD (so all up $20) to get a new replacement sent.

The other option is to send it back to them for repair but knowing the cost of sending parcels overseas I'm not sure if it is worth it.

Has anyone else had any problems with this camera before? Also has anyone dealt with Gearbest before in regards to replacing faulty items to get a resolution.

Cheers

  • Items purchased from overseas sources rarely have amicable warranties.
Best to just buy another one and move on.

Have you tried another sd card in it?

Yeah, tried with different sd cards and without it, same symptom.

    • Thanks for the suggestion. I have just tried doing a firmware update but again it is stuck on the Welcome green screen.

  • i have a similar issue. the unit i got freezes up after a few seconds of any operation. tried everything i can, nothing worked.

    anyone has any suggestions?

  • Got mine a few days ago and I have the exact same issue. Started a support ticket will update with progress. Anyone successful with their return of item?

    • +1

Gearbest will give you a full refund if the product becomes faulty within 45 days of purchase. I think they will ask you for a shipping fee of $8 USD if you opt for a replacement to be sent to you.

I paid an extra $20 USD (50% of the original) for a replacement to be sent to me because I was outside the 45 day period.

      • Yup. Finally got my refund.

  • I did the same as well=50% credit which seems fair, but
happened again with the new replacement after a while.

  • now they give me two options:they refund the money to my account(not to my credut card) or post a new unit to me. (as the op, i already paid them extra $20 in addition to the original price i paid.
so guys, which option do you recommend?

    • Depends on your need really. If you are going to buy something from them in the future take the refund to your account. If you need a dash cam then take the replacement. If you take the refund you could always by a different dash cam if you are not confident in this model.
