Road Bicycle Wheels (700c)

I am building a bike for my son at the moment to try and get him out on the road riding. I have built a few bikes before and I am a keen cyclist myself, I also have a good LBS that I fall back on if I have any problems. I know in advance that it is cheaper to buy a good 2nd hand bike off Gumtree etc but I want to involve my son in the process of building the bike as part of a bonding/educational father/son thing.

All that said, I have a 2nd hand frame and forks I bought from a facebook group. I just bought a Groupset in the Ribble sale (shimano 105 5800, 11speed). The only other main component needed is wheels. I bought some 2nd hand wheels off a guy I sometimes ride with for $40 but in retrospect they are junk. The brake tracks are nearly done and I will have to replace the freehub to suit 11 speed, LBS is quoting me $120 to do this, I am sure I could find a cheaper freehub somewhere and switch it myself but realistically I am throwing good $$ after bad.

So anybody seen any decent wheel deals? I was looking for something decent, aluminium clinchers, around 1600g or lighter with an 11spd freehub. I like the look of the pro-lite braccianos but they will set me back nearly $400, I was hoping for cheaper.

Shimano RS31 @ CRC $250 for the set.
1952 grams for the wheelset, lets be honest though you wont be able to tell the difference.
Suits 11 speed and 10 speed with the included spacer.

You need to use tubes with longer valves, but they're pretty common anyway.

The look really nice and for the price they ride really really well.
I ended up getting three sets all up for my bikes.

    • RS31's even cheaper elsewhere Probikekit has them for $193 including free shipping but where we live and ride is extremely hilly, I reckon the extra 500-600 grams of rotating weight on those wheels hauling them up hills could be a drama for him. Also not that keen on the old cup and cone setup, I cant see him wanting to do much adjusting/maintenance.
