eBay $10 Paypal Voucher - Did Anyone Else Get It?

I just noticed a $10 voucher on my eBay account today. I didn't see any email or anything, I just noticed it sitting underneath VOUCHER section at the very bottom of MY EBAY page. It's basically $10 off any purchase over $20 (must use paypal). Expires 09/01/2015.

Its not a generic code and linked only to my account so I can't share it. It dissappears as soon as I used it.

Not bad. I was chasing a $30 worth of item that I was hesitating on buying so it came at the right time. However, had I not seen it by luck I would've never know it's there.

Let me know if anyone else got it. I'm not sure why I got it either as it didn't say anything.

EDIT: I just found out hidden in my spam mail.. apparently it is a BIRTHDAY VOUCHER. Funny, my birthday isn't until June! Maybe I put it wrong in my account…

  • No, but got a $10 off for $20 spend as 'birthday' gift because the date I put in as everyone else should is 01/01/19nn.

    • Yeah just noticed that. Not bad!

      Happy bday!

  • When does the code expire? Mine in 9th of Jan. Hopefully it's site wide too.

    • Mine is 14/01/2014

      • Ah must be a two week thing or something as I got mine last year. Or ten to 14 days.

        • Bah, always doing that… 2015 I mean!

  • Ah, so it's not a PayPal thing as you thought but an eBay one. I got the E-Mail as an eBay code, but maybe it says to pay via PP, but forgot that part, just thought it was an eBay credit thing.

    • It is an eBay code, but you must pay via paypal.

      • Ah thanks. Makes sense John.

I had a $5 voucher a few weeks ago with a $20 min spend. bought a blood pressire monitor. arrived today. great item. thanks seller.

  • Now that I think about it. Many people I know also do the 01/01/198n trick, so perhaps they might discontinue birthday codes for some or many of those born on Jan 1st unless they can really prove it. They must take quite a hit in first week of Jan with all these 'birthdays'.

So maybe it's better to time it to coincide with cash frenzy sales or mid-year?

My birthday is now June 6th! ;-p 06/06 is easy to remember.

    • They might limit it to once a year regardless of what date. They can't check real birthdays.. but they would know one thing for certain, everyone only has 1 date :P

      • No but the maths doesn't work, if they looked at their database and found that 10 or 20% of users are somehow all born on the same day they might change it or not give it out to everyone (not just eBay but all ecommerce sites, I've noticed I don't get birthday codes from other sites as they must have caught on to this, so I use an easy to remember alternate).

where do you even put your birthday details on ebay?

    • Good question. I can't find it yet.

    • I have no idea either. I was trying to find this myself earlier with no luck. Maybe linked to your email address?

    • These are usually given through Paypal, so maybe there somewhere?

  • I have never seen one of these vouchers?

Just looked at My eBay and there is no section called Vouchers.

I look at it regularly as I have been clearing out some stuff from my house lately, not that I will earn much from it with all the fees etc. But that's another story.
