Can you please put "podcast" in the title of these posts? It's annoying opening the thread and then discovering that it's actually an ad for your website. In fact, all three 'posts' in your post history are merely advertising your website and podcast.

  • hi blitz,
sorry to take so long to get back to you. in the future i will post with Podcast in the title.

As per my post being promotion for my blog. i have never tried to hide the fact that i am promoting my podcast, but my intention of posting my content is to create conversation around what i am discussing. I believe that the advice and tips that i have been (and will give in the future) are of value to the ozbargain community and others like it. i do not like writing ( thus the lurking of OB in the past) and i feel that a podcast is an effective way of communicating my thoughts to the broader community and there could be people out there that would like the information.

You many not enjoy listening to podcasts and find my posts annoying but there people like myself out there that don't read very well might appreciate this form of communication.

If the general consensus is if my information, input and participation is not as valuable as the next member of the Ozbargain community then i will stop posting, and it will be a shame.

I've listened to the first couple of podcasts and have some constructive feedback. The basic concept of these podcasts are great and you speak clearly in them.

    Frequency
I've seen lots of podcasts/blogs etc come out of the gate with a whole bunch of shows and then then find the frequency of new podcasts come out less and less. Doing a daily podcast is going to burn you out so I think you need to set realistic goals of maybe 1 a week. You state that your wife will be giving birth soon? This may impact on this further.

    Agenda
Sticking to an agenda. If you check out some of the podcasts on the TWIT network, you will generally see a list of things being discussed. It reminded me of meetings where there is no chairperson keeping everyone to the agenda. I think you need another person in the podcast with you.

    In show advertising
Remind people to subscribe to podcast, Facebook whatever at the beginning and at the end of the podcast. Too many plugs for the show as well as whats happening on future episodes.

It would be good to talk about specific issues and give a link to them. E.G. something discussed on OzBargain, or an article on News.com.au etc. The most interesting thing I took from your podcast was Analysis Paralysis which I've never heard of but often experience this when trying to purchase stuff. It's especially bad when planning trips.

Anyway, early days. Best of luck.

  • Hi neil,
Thanks so much for your post, i hardly consider it constructive criticism. Its great advice and i really appreciate you taking the time to reply and help me out. Also thank you for the kind words in regards to speaking clearly. its something im very concious of as i have never been able to speak without umming and arring and i know if i keep at it my speaking will improve which will help in my current job as a agricultural Salesman and i have started to act upon your recommendations already.

I am going to review my posting schedule and reassess whether 5 days a week is sustainable long term. i would really like to think i could but i must be realistic and like you mention with the baby coming, there wont be much time spare :). As for the baby coming soon, i intend to do several episodes in advance to cover the missed time

In regards to agenda, this is an area i will def. work to improve. I have also been talking to my wife and in some episodes soon we are going to trail doing the podcast together which i am really excited about.

Im new to blogging but i can see the value for the listeners to reference other sites that i have gained inspiration from of have found interesting.

As for analysis Paralysis, it has been something i have experienced all my life but have never had a name for it until it was spoken about in an audiobook which i listened too

Hopefully ill still be podcasting in a years time and we can reflect back and see if your tips have help the podcast take off

    Jimmy
