Nintendo Wii U 32GB + Mario Kart 8 + Nintendo Land + Epic Mickey 2 - $429 @ EB Games

100

Currently looks to be the best bundle on offer. Looking around I am seeing different retailers slowly adding extra games to the MK8 bundle or slowly lowering the price. This is currently the best package deal I believe, the Gamesmen are doing MK8 Bundle + Just Dance for $419 for example.

Maybe the best bundle around at the moment but this is close enough to RRP; certainly no bargain here.

The DSE Ps4 deal with 3 games was $399. This just shows that the Wii U desperately needs a price cut.

Who cares? They're all laughably behind on power compared to PC anyway.

You buy a Nintendo console for the exclusive games.

      • Hmmm, can you please recommend a PC with good enough power at $399? I'd like to play some Dark Souls II on that since it's cheaper to buy on Steam.

        • Cheapest i3 and H81 motherboard, R7 250x, 4gb of ram and a cheapy hard drive would be about that and run it pretty nicely. That's if you can reuse an old case and PSU, otherwise you'll have to stretch the budget a bit.

@Merlict: So 2/3 of a computer. And it's still not going to run any of the first party Wii U games, which is the main reason to get a Wii U to begin with.

If you want to play Dark Souls 2 on the cheap, you could always look at a second hand PS3 or Xbox 360. There's far cheaper places, but even at EB you can get the game for $35 and a console starting at $68. I'd probably look to spend more on something better than the 20GB model, but none the less its a cheap way to get access to the game if starting from scratch.

        • @Smigit: Personally, as a Dark Souls fan, I would recommend staying away from Dark Souls 2 all together. Or play Kirby's Epic Yarn (when you get your Wii-U!); they're both about the same difficulty. Wish I was exaggerating :(

        • @Smigit:
You.. do realize you're agreeing with my first comment about Nintendo titles, right?

That was to run it at decent settings, could drop it down to an APU and fit in the case/psu. Nobody was saying PC gaming is the cheapest.

        • @Merlict: The games on PC are commonly far cheaper (especially digitally), but the means to get there are far more expensive. However, over an 8 year generation cycle like we just had, the price would tend to equal out.

        • @Merlict: So I am. Sorry if my post was a bit antagonising, you were only answering his question. My bad.

I do think a $399 budget for a gaming PC is ambitious and you may need to add in the monitor also depending on what he owns. Unless he wants to recycle much of an existing system or if he's only targeting that one game and has no real interest in future titles, I'd probably look at upping the budget for the PC. As noted, the number of $5 - $10 games you can grab online vs the $40+ console counterparts could lead to you quickly winning out anyway even if you have to up the $399 to start with.

    • Okay! I will take your advice and buy an Xbone instead of a Wii U! Thanks!

  • personally, I think it's bullshit having mario kart pre installed onto the hdd, why can't we have a physical copy we can trade/sell and not have it waste space on the hdd if we don't want it there?

    • So you sign up to an account and find out how magical paying RRP for digital downloading is ;)

The WiiU really should come down in price - at least to be more in-range with the sales of the PS4 & XB1 in the lead up to Christmas - if any of the major retailers had done this I imagine they would have sold a ton of units.

I had been looking for a while (missed all the crazy low prices that everyone remembers) but was lucky enough to pick up the MarioKart WiiU Premium for $329 before XMas (that was a pricing error which was honoured).

    • As a lover of the Wii-U, I think it's quite overpriced. But don't get me wrong, the reason I think that is not tech-wise. I'm one of the last people left that doesn't believe the number of pixels equals quality of the game. I think they should lower the price to get units out there, then more people will be inclined to buy their vidyagaems.

Frankly, I also have no idea how my local shops sell out of both Wii-U gamess and Ammiibos in under a day with the unit count out there. Jesus Nintendo, are you only shipping 2 copies of each game to each store?

      • Nintendo's handling of the Ammiibos really does confuse me. I really can't comprehend why they have allowed stock to be so restrained in light of high demand. Other than a bit of word of mouth (which won't all be positive), surely they benefit more from having stock available to consumers rather than having buyers battling it out on eBay and paying obscene amounts for the figures. I get that some are less popular and are thus candidates to be phased out, but when your inventory is sold out within days you'd think they'd at least do another run or two.

I'd love to know what percentage of Amiibo buyers are actually buying them for use with a console vs purely for display on a shelf. Not that there's anything wrong with buying them for display purpose only, but it does seem interest in the toys is way ahead of interest in the Wii U at least of late.

        • Nintendo have made quite quite a few strange decisions in the past few years. Who really knows what is going through the heads of management these days.

I think the $299 basic bundle with Epic Mickey 2 is still on at EB as well.

This is hardly a bargain! Brand new deluxe Wii U's were selling for under $300 in mid 2014, if you got one of those and bought MK8 separately, you would be sitting happily at around $370. I feel that retailers are milking Wii U bundles now that GOOD GAMES have actually been released for them, DON'T BE FOOLED though! Simply wait until prices drop again or be smart and buy the console and games you want separately. I was lucky enough to get a Wii U & MK8 Bundle for only $380 from Harvey Norman on Boxing Day, that was ONLY because the manager offered it to me at that price cos he was finding it hard to sell them.

Hardly a reasonable neg too, there were no price decreases for Christmas… They are not coming shortly, stop giving out wrong advice!
