Mum & dad want to get away next Wednesday

Mum and dad want to get away starting next Wed (14-19th Jan) within Australia or overseas. Dad said he wants to spend $1500 for accommodation and flight for 5 days if possible for both of them. Of course this doesn't include spending money.

Dad loves fishing they are both 55 years old can you guys recommend anything this time of the year.

So are those dates fixed not flexible?

Where are they flying from, I'm guessing SYD? (since your profile says you are in Sydney)

I had a quick look via an Adioso search for your dates from SYD:

So they could go to Byron or Cairns or Whitsundays, but given the hot weather in those places at this time of year, why not a little getaway to Tasmania? Return direct flights to Launceston are $178 with Jetstar (http://adioso.com/au/syd-to-launceston-au-january-14-return-…). If your parents are anything like my parents I think they will love it.

Hire a car from Launceston and they can then drive around without any schedule and rock up to a B&B or other accommodation as they please. Maybe even book accommodation through AirBNB.com to save a little money.

Wineglass bay and cradle mountain and quaint Tazzie towns, plus all the national parks and good scenery everywhere… not to mention coastline and lakes with potential fishing spots galore.

  • Actually dad mentioned Cairnes and dates not flexible flight from Sydney

They could possibly scrape in for flights to Christchurch, New Zealand:

Then hire a car the next morning, like this, which gives you two days free thanks to being a relocation rental:

Then stay up at Picton for a few nights:

Or find a bach/holiday house up around Picton/Marlborough Sounds and go from there.

Return to Christchurch via bus or rental car.

Just a thought if they were wanting to have an overseas holiday around their budget :)

Port Douglas. It's an hours drive up from Cairns.
It'll be a little hot and humid at the moment, but it's a fantastic holiday destination, especially for an older couple.

  • I like the sound of Tassie, anywhere you guys recommend I'll see if I can go to flight can ntre on Monday and grab a guide

Sounds like dad should go down to Tassie on hump day ;)

  • If going to North QLD remember there is a cyclone risk.

I am going there in August. Much cooler and no cyclones or poisonous jellyfish.
