PayPal 'Pending Balance' - Funds Not Yet Available?

I'm no stranger to selling items on eBay and receiving payment via Paypal. However, I've made a few sales recently and have noticed that I can't seem to immediately access the money received from these sales.

The status of the transaction is "Completed – Funds not yet available" and these funds now come under a 'Pending Balance' which I have never seen before. Usually I can access the money straight away - or have I not noticed this feature before?

The following is also shown:
"The funds you receive from eBay sales may not be available for up to 21 days. This could be because you are still yet to meet eBay's selling and PayPal's risk standards. If the buyer reports an issue, the funds may be held for longer. However, in some cases your funds can be available sooner."

Is this a new feature of Paypal? Anyone else get this? Is it okay to mail the item out or wait for payment to fully clear?

yes paypal try to protect buyer more, you need to post the item first otherwise it can be held up to 21 days something like that.

i got this issue last time buying from ebay from newbie seller. i sent the money via paypal. she got it but insisted to wait because the cash is pending. i said no you need to post first, its paypal rules. she kept saying its pending pending. at the end we agreed to cancel. very annoying wasted alot of time for nothing

  • same thing here, I posted and received my money 7 days later..

  • I have only had it pending from an e-cheque payment. Paypal suggests not to post until e-cheque payment clears. Would this add another week of waiting for funds? Plus another week of waiting after transferring it to a bank account, if you wanted cash.

    • I sold an item on eBay and the buyer paid by echeque. I waited a week and the cheque didn't clear- luckily I didn't post the item.
The buyer didn't respond to any of my messages asking her to confirm whether she would pay via a different bank/method or would like to cancel the transaction.
It's now been nearly a month, and eBay has automatically lodged a payment dispute, and once this process ends I'll finally be refunded the seller fees eBay already charged me (and I paid for from my bank-great). I'm now removing myself from selling on eBay, it is just too expensive and frustrating.

  • I have had this before. I never send anything until payment has cleared into my Paypal and I can withdraw it into bank account. It usually happens on larger amounts. Sometimes the payment has to be cleared by Paypal.

  • Happened to me 2 weeks ago sold some stuff funds weren't available until 2 days ago

  • Yet another reason why i sell whatever on gumtree insted of ebay.

  • (profanity) paypal. One of the worst companies to deal with as a seller. Unbelievable.

  • Rang them today. They dont care and will hold your funds until the buyer leaves 'feedback' then they will start processing it. and if the buyer doesnt they just keep your money. They held mine for over the 21 days. Obviously keeping our money to invest or something.
