Emirates - New Fare Types

"Some exciting changes are on their way this February. We will unveil a brand new range of fare types, based on valuable feedback from our members. You’ll have more choice and flexibility with the type of ticket you buy and more ways to maximise the Miles you earn when you fly with us. "
"In February 2015, we’ll increase the number of fare types that we offer. So you’ll have even more control over the type of ticket you buy and more ways to earn extra Miles."
What a load of rubbish!! I don't know which feedback they have been listening to, and I doubt that the feedback would be saying that "we want to earn less miles for sale fares" or "we want to pay more miles for an upgrade" which is the actual result!
Steadily and surely of the past 5 years or so they have been reducing the earnings rates and reducing rewards. And this is yet more, disguised as "listening to our members" and "more choice and flexibility". As I wait to upgrade upon checkin (another valuable option - not!) my hard earnt miles lose value at an even faster rate.

  • Care to post a bit more information? A link? Maybe a spreadsheet showing the old points required for something and the new amount required?

This link is only useful if you are a member as you need to log in, but here it is https://www.emirates.com/account/au/english/login/login.aspx…
It will all depend on Origin and Destination. For example upgrade from a Saver Fare is currently 60,000 miles Syd - Bkk. It will go up to 78,250. Special fares will not be upgradeable. (Currently all fares are upgradeable). Currently you can get a Saver Fare during parts of the year Syd - Bkk for $750 return. (Outwards leg with codeshare Qantas plane) We will have to wait until February to see the best prices Special Fare & Saver Fare.
Every 'New & Exciting Change' that they have had in the past 5 or so years has just screwed the travelling public more and more.

Love the marketing spin making it seem like they are doing you a favour. At the end of the day, unless a mass amount of people decide to cancel their membership and not fly with them, they will get away with it. It just irks me that companies think we are dumb. I've started voting with my wallet.

    • Yep. Me too. I am unwinding my position with Citibank Emirates card, and my EK FF Miles credit. When they are all gone, then so am I.

  • Hi all,

I totally agree Peck, they are playing with us as if we will think this is a positive change.
I would accept this change if they say "due to the fast increasing number of passengers having elite memberships with emirates, we have decided to change the fare types"
    rather than the rubbish
"based on valuable feedback from our members"

actually I hated the airlines more with such statement.
Although the prices remained relatively unchanged, but much much less benefits.

To retain Gold tier membership, I need to live in the skies flying emirates daily on J class, unlike other airlines.
Being a gold member, I can't wait to se my tier goes down to Silver, and again to Blue and say good bye to Emirates, I have already switched my preference to another airline(s).

    Good luck and safe trips.

    Regards
