Where to buy cheap Mason jars (or an equivalent type of product)

Hi OZB - I wish to buy some jars for long term storage, Mason jars would be perfect but something similar would also be OK.

The most important aspect is they need to be air tight sealed and relatively easy to open and seal again. I can live with other aspects that are not like Mason jars (eg. not glass). They have no requirement that they can be used for actual canning of goods (so no heat treatment etc.) though they must be food safe. Size i would like is typical "canning size" type of volume (1 - 5 litres? not sure but larger is not a problem).

I would not have the faintest clue where to look for these other than eBay and Amazon - where is a good place to look as far as prices goes?

    Woolworths sell mason jars.. about $3 each, check the cookware aisle.

    BigW also sell them but from memory they weren't as cheap as woolworths.

    Moccona instant coffee has a 400g size jar that holds a bit more than 1L. It is air tight, but not suitable for canning (plastic seal).
    I have seen these given away on freecycle. We use then to store flour, nuts, cocoa etc.

      Hmm I'll investigate this however I assumed this of Blend 43 Nescafe Gold jars and it turns out they're not quite airtight (surprisingly).

        The Moccona jars have a plastic stopper in the lids that makes them quite air tight.

        Well, she ( the actress) divorced her (character) brother, so the actress is available, so far as i know. The character was always available, as she was Dexter's foster sister.

    Try the Reject shop they had a few different types of Mason jars.

      The jars are a bit expensive however they also sell lids and rubber seals seperately for $1.20 each (in a 10 pack) which can be used on any jar they will fit, that could be very cost effective and something I didn't think of. I would link but I can't get the URL but click the reusable lids link if interested.

    The wife bought original Ball mason jars online for very cheap. BigW also sells the original Ball jars.

    Random dollar shops also sell mason jars. You could also check online candle/soap/etc shops.

    Coles regularly has them on special for 2 for $4 or $5 depending on the size.
