House Tips and Planning

Hey guys,

Here's a few questions that may help me.

Some backgroun info; 2 bedroom 2 story owned (mortgage) townhouse
About 13 years old now, the original owners did a paint job about 7 years ago when we bought it, rough home job I think.

Painting - have done some painting before, is it beneficial to spend money on getting a painter, the only thing im worried about is moving all my crap about.

Ceiling Fan with light in main bedroom - thinking of getting a ceiling fan installed, is it something too crazy for a DiY?

Carpet - upstairs carpet needs replacing alittle old now and outdated, have 2 small rooms upstairs, the top level between the two bedrooms and bathroom (about 1.2m x 2m) and the staircase which is carpeted, Bunnings seem to have that special when you buy carpet the install is cheap, but does that include a staircase?

Backyard - concrete yard, have a few pot plants but nothing really that nice, any ideas on what to do to spruce things up, thinking large pots with rainforest like plants to give it a nice feel to it, conrete removal not an option as its part drive way to the side of the house and my motorbike is stored there haha

Thanks for the help and tips you may have.

Illegal to do your own electrical or plumbing work without a license - could void your home/contents insurance in doing so.

  • Painters will charge you bulk for moving stuff around, they usually request you clear the walls before they enter anyway. As stated above, Illegal to do DIY electrical work, it isnt hard but there is risks involved.
Bunnings carpet is horrible and easily recognisable, when I walk into a house for sale and you see that cheap grey box style carpet, you know its bunnings and the owners have prepared the house on the cheap cheap; feels rubbish to walk on also. For the backyard, if you were really into it you can lay tiles over it and form a pattern or go astro turf, I know it sounds crazy but my mate did it and surprisingly feels great and looks amazing; no needing to mow, just run the vacuum cleaner over it every now and then, only downside is in summer it gets hot to walk on, but nothing to bad.
