  • Damm beat me to it by a minute!
I think now is the time to stock up on all the stuff I didn't get last time!
I think I got my last order in just over a week.

    • +1

I placed an order last night and the DHL tracking is telling me it's due for delivery this Friday. That's pretty quick.

    • what did you guys order?

      • I ordered a bunch of stuff. Pedals, tools, tubes, chainstay protector, handlebar stem. Not sure if any of it was on a huge special but it's mostly stuff I needed anyway.

      • Bunch of tubes, a saddle bag and some tyre levers.

  • +1

Have bought mountains of stuff off these guys in the past but been disappointed with CRC lately, anybody find anything decent in their sale?

    • I've found most of the great bargains have gone thanks to the drop in the AUD.

Shipping is also a bit hit and miss now. Sometimes it can take an extra week or two if use this new courier system. Ordered two packages 1 day apart and there was a 15 day gap between the arrival times.

      • Do you think they bulk ship to Australia and then have a distribution centre to send them to you? Last time I noticed there are two shipping labels (one from the UK and one appears to be domestic Auspost).

        • They have always had a couple of shopping methods for as long as I remember.

We used to chat about the strange use of different companies to ship bike bits around 15 years ago so Im guessing things havnt changed.

I cant speak highly enough of them though. Great company to deal with.

        • Dont know about CRC but Wiggle leased a big warehouse in Sydney, probably for that very purpose.

        • Lockey must be sleeping on the job with all this slow freight

  • The only thing I've bought from these guys was a BMX when I lived in Barcelona - and it was awesome. I might stock up on some bike tools and stuff with this offer though!

  • Hmm for $108 I could completely overhaul my brakes on my MTB. Replace my old worn out Mechanical Shimano M416's with the Hydraulic M615's. Probably be night and day for trail for riding… Very tempting.

    • +2

Go for it. Mechanical discs are next to useless compared to hydraulic.

  • Sweet, was about to buy some new MTB tyres yesterday but thought I'd hold off!

  • +1

they have had the high5 nutrition boxes for the same price for ages, but its a steal with free postage - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/au/en/high5-crc-exclusive…
i don't know of any cheaper way to buy gels than this pack, and you get a bidon thrown in also

  • +1

By the time I'm finished adding items to my cart, it's always over $99 so it's always free shipping for me :)

Just remember to add a cheap wirebead tyre, bars or 2kg high5 powder if you want your "free" shipping to be sent priority tracked.. otherwise you'll be waiting over 3 weeks for your free package to arrive.

    • As I said above, I got my package in little over a week with none of those things. Don't think it was tracked but I wasn't sweating on the time.

      • Based on my long history dealing with them and others, best case scenario is two weeks for free shipping without tracking. You get lucky sometimes. Awesome if you're relaxed about time like you but I usually order something when I need it (lbs don't usually stock what I need).

        • Fair enough. I was only basing it on one data point. I'll track how long it takes next time I order.

  • Bike Store makes free shipping a deal.
    *Excludes Bikes.
    Makes sense!

  • i ordered a cassette and chain from these guys, it arrived okay but after fitting them im getting a crunchy sound and feel from the chainrings, i presume i.waited too long and the old chain has warped the teeth on the rings.
so this works out nicely, i can order a set of chainrings with free postage.

    • +1

sounds like you need a "Chain Wear Indicator" tool also

      • I think just get a pair of vernier calipers on ebay for less than $10 which you can also use for other stuff. Tension the chain when measuring, each link should be exactly 1 inch when new (25.40mm), measure a few links together, say n number of links, when the chain length exceeds 1% (x=25.4×1.01n mm) then it's time to change. at 0.75% you know you can order a new chain.

rule of thumb it's about 5000km per chain depending on how often you clean it and your riding style. also usually 3-4 chains to a cassette.

  • Any suggestions of good deals? I had a browse through tires, tubes and their January sale- nothing seemed OzB worthy…

  • I had a look, couldn't find anything that looked OzB worthy so instead spent above the 'free shipping threshold' over at Ribble instead.

    • any deals there?

      • Pretty much everything was cheaper. I am building up a bike for my son to try and get him into cycling. Ribble seems to normally (not always but most often) have the best prices. Groupsets there are cheap, I bought a 105 5800 11 speed. Wheels are cheap but they add an extra $50 bulk shipping fee per set of wheels. As a result the cheapest wheels I could find were on the german site www.bike-discount.de They had some great deals on Fulcrum racing 3's, their prices are in euro but xe worked it out to around $470 ish

Today I bought all the extraneous minutatae that will be needed (bottle cages, saddle bag, tyre levers etc) to finish the bike off. Most of the things I bought, even little things like tubes were $1 - $2 cheaper at Ribble, saddle bag was $3 ish cheaper.

        • What about after cashrewards cash back..??

        • +2

          @herbus:

My order was for $128 so Cashback 4.8% of that is $6.14

Saddle Bag, Topeak Aero Wedge was $19.99 @ CRC, $16.03 @ Ribble

Front light Lezyne KTV Drive Pro Front Light Black CRC was $26.49, Ribble was $20.87

Elite Custom Race Bottle Cage (Chain Reaction dont have the colour I want but regardless) CRC was $12.49, Ribble was $9.83 (I bought 2 of these)

Blackburn AirStik SL Mini Pump CRC was $21.49, Ribble was $16.45

Park TL1 Tyre Levers CRC was $3.49, Ribble was $3.02

I also bought some Altura Knicks that CRC dont sell, I've never worn them but my son will need bibs. They cost about $40, I see CRC also sell entry level bibshorts, so maybe call that a draw but the Ribble bibshorts have a special on at the moment where for $2 more you get a tube of Chamois cream to go with.

I got free shipping from Ribble and pretty sure I saved well beyond the cashback amount, what's more is I saved it today, not in 3 months when the cashback guys get around to paying up!

        • @2ndeffort: also GP400s 2 at merlin cycles is $98 and comes with two basic tubes. The same bundle without tubes are like $107 at wiggle. A month or two ago when the aussie dollar wasn't as bad, the tyres were about $90 (cheapest everywhere).

        • @iSamurai:

Ribble twinpack of GP4000 2's (both sizes but no inner tubes) $90.56 http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/tyres-road-…

        • +1

@2ndeffort: sweet thanks! nearly bought the one at merlin.

        • @iSamurai: you're welcome, great tyres currently on my bike. My LBS owner hates them, had my bike in for some work on Monday and he saw the GP4K's, reckons no bike shops stock them because they know they can't compete with online.

  • Can anyone recommend a good road bike seat? My stock standard one is killing my crotch!

    • +1

It probably just needs adjustment, or your riding position changed. Saddle should not press on the crotch.

      • I bought a REID branded bike from their Melbourne shop and the guy there didn't put much effort into adjusting the bike for me… do you think other bike shops will be happy to help me out?

    • Agree with manic, proper fit most important but as well as that, good cycling knicks (with a good insert), Chamois cream and a flow saddle! Flow saddle being one of those with a hole/cutout in the middle. I have a Selle Italia but most of the saddle companies seem to make them these days. The theory with the hole is that your perineum isnt resting on anything, therefore not rubbing on anything, therefore it cant get chaffed. Works for me!

      • I blew my money on a pair of Castelli cycling shorts last time Chain Reaction had a sale, and that didn't help… flow saddle sounds like an interesting idea, perhaps I should buy one this time..

  • so I think the only things I'm gonna buy are a pair of cleats, a tube of anti seize and a hanger/dropout. thanks for posting.

  • I need a narrower handlebar for my 29er. Ribbles dont sell mtb gear it seems. Any suggestions? eBay have one (alloy 6061) for $11 but I'm concerned it will could break?
