What Is The Total Number of Qantas Frequent Flyer Points You Have Earned through Various Banks in The Year 2014?

Hi Ozbargainers

I am curious to know about the total number of Qantas Frequent Flyer points you have earned through various banks in the year 2014.

I will go first. I earned 110,000 points through 2 ANZ credit cards and 1 Bankwest Qantas Transaction account.

    • It is a life…and an income!! I sold the maximum allowable number of points for my 12 month period (400000) and have pocketed just under $5000 in cold hard cash for my efforts. And now still have almost half a mill in my points balance. Which incidentally is enough for almost 2 Round the world fares in Business class.
But id rather wait till my selling period is open again in November to monetise these points again.

      • Is There some sort of cut off for selling points that makes Nov a special date? I use points for flying and plane to continue to do so, so have not transferred any points.

        You misunderstand me.

Nothing wrong with FF point accumulation. But why ask what others points balances are?

If the OP wants to find out how to accumulate more, then say so.

        Otherwise its just pointless dribble.

Hell its the internet. I could say anything like yep I got 12547.35 points, so what!!

        • Why let it bother you? If you don't want to read it, simply skim over it. Go "live that life" that you're so quick to tell others going to get instead of posting a pointless dribble post as to why the thread shouldn't have been made in the first place.

        • it sure is the internet, you could say whatever you wanted. but that's not the point of opening a healthy discussion with likeminded people on a forum.

OP might want to brag a little? that's fine, not hurting anyone by doing that.
OP might be curious about what the earning potential in a year is? 'i think i'm doing well, where do i fall in the grand scheme of things? is someone doing it better than me'

          back to you though…

"you misunderstand me." - there wasn't much to understand from your post.

i'm pretty sure "get a life…" qualifies more as pointless dribble than OP's question. practice what you preach.

  • 700 000 points here

    • +1

      wow very impressive! how?

    • +3

Are you talking 700,000 bonus points OR 700,000 points from bonus points + purchases?

I have a Bankwest Platinum card and they stuffed up and credited 2 x 40,000 bonus points plus another bonus of about 15,000 points. This was a couple of years ago and they never did anything about it.

Thanks to the Australian who don't pay their credit cards in time and pay interest, I have so far used points to upgrade twice to Business Class to the USA, but I now have a bank of more than 500,000 points to use. And I haven't paid a single cent on ANY of my credit cards :)

      • you are doing very well for yourself!

  • +4

    Well…

    2 x ANZ 50000 bonus points
    1x Citi 80000 bonus points
    1x Bankwest 10000 bonus points
    1x Aquire 10000 Bonus Poins*
    1 x ANZ 32000 bonus points
    1 x 40000 NAB bonus points
1x 10000 Qantas voucher purchase Bonus points**

So in 2014 I earned 282000 Bonus qantas points from varying organisations. All were fee free apart from citi ($299) which I managed to get the fee refunded because I called and complained "my friend" got the card fee free.

*The Aquire 10000 Bonus points required a purchase of a $3 bag of Samboy Chips (Atomic Tomato) for the points to be triggered. I also received 6 points for the chips!!

**The Qantas 10000 voucher points required a purchase of a Qantas voucher of $1000. ( I also received and additional 2500 points for the actual purchase on my Amex)!!

I have subsequently began to cancel all these cards in order to re apply for the 2015 Bonuses!!

CBA, Jetstar and Westpac all rejected my application for their cards!!

    • I have done a similar thing on a smaller scale, just wondering when you anticipate yr Veda score may recoupertae for the next round of applications, if that's why the knock backs(?). I'm in the process of cancelling a few now esp now that WOW money has a cap of 2500 QF points a month. But, an everyday non AMEX is necessary and need to get on to that.

What are you going for next ;)?

      • I dont really care about my Veda score any more…I have my major loans sorted so wont be an issue for me, and when push comes to shove I just tell them why I have so much credit available to me and that I chase points and in some cases they either ask me to reduce credit limits or close thoese account to open new ones.

For example ANZ just asked me to reduced all my credit limits by 30k to approve the cards, which I did, Got the cards and bonus points, and will hopefully be doing again this year. I think ANZ have a 6 month waiting period before you can re aaaply.

I know with westpac, if u open a saving account with them, then they will most likely approve a credit card. Prior assosciation with the bank helps. So im in the process of opening a saving account atm with them, and wait for them to offer a good cc deal!

      mind-blowing!

    • +1

      Excellent work!

    • +1

      sensational :)

    • I thought the bonus points were only awarded for new customers and returning customers do not get them

  • -1

That last para seems incomprehensible to me. Could you explain?

  • -1

    Nickster's last para I don't understand.

    • +1

I think the points he is trying to make is the banks offer such generous deals because they can afford to, as people who apply for these deals, dont use the cards correctly and end up paying hundreds and thousands of dollars in interest over time, therefore the banks can afford to lure more people in with generous offers, in the hope they become lifelong interest payers also and fatten the banks coffers.

Of course yes I should have be able to interpret that.

  • Since I used up all my pts for a biz-class trip to LA return and biz-class trip to HK/JP return in Mar-2013:

1 x ANZ Rewards Black 781,000 pts (spent $260,333 - 2 x MB A/CLA-Class and loads of Mac Pros for work)
1 x AMEX Plat Edge 130,000 pts (spent $130,000 - investment property expenditures, fuel (lots of fuel), supermarket (lots of groceries!) )

not sure how is that converted to Qantas FF though, i stick with AsiaMiles for Cathay Pacific/BA flying to Asian countries in Biz class…

too bad i can't sell the points without heavy penalty.

  • +2

I'm flying to LA later in the year Business Class. Got a good fare ($6K return).

Bought $6,000 of Qantas vouchers (promotion gives me 60,000 points ie 10 points per $1 on vouchers) to pay for the fare, and the return flight itself will nett 45,000 points (I'm platinum). Plus the trip is a business trip so tax deductible.

  • Just putting it out there, if anyone is looking to sell frequent flyer points, I am willing to buy!! :)

  • Keep an eye on Ozb's classifieds https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/179613

  • How many credit cards can you apply in a year before you start getting rejected?

    • id say 3-4… now Vodafone wont even give me a $50 plan… lol

but I did refinance my mortgage same year.. maybe contributing factor

      • who needs a plan anyway, go back to the stoneage and get prepaid

        • +1

na Vodafone's $10 off their monthly + 1GB bonus data BYO $50/plan is good

but yeh now im just using pre-paid
