DickSmith: after Two Months, Still Waiting for Bonus Item

I purchased Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with bonus Samsung Activity Tracker in last November, but they didn't have stock for the bonus item in store at the time. They noted down my contact numbers and told me that they will contact me when they have stock. And two months have passed, and I still haven't got the bonus item. I visited the store few times within last two months to check is the bonus item back in stock, but I got the same reply that they were waiting for stock to come in.

I wonder am I just being impatient, or should I escalate this case to ACCC? I can see they are still selling it online (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/health-fitness/samsung-activity-… as of 25/02/2015), so I felt that they are not telling me the truth about the stock level. I will bring this up to them next week.

I don't have any experience in dealing with this kind of situation before, so any suggestions for next step of action or any forum link for similar topics will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Yes, escalate. Forget the ACCC, you should be going to the UN. Charge them with a war crime. You must be down at least $5 from this transaction. Speaking calmly and rationally to the store is old-fashioned.

      Mate, this guy has been waiting since November and is genuinely asking for advice,, not needing your sarcastic remarks. Get out of your internet/keyboard warrior armour and offer some helpful advice, if you have some. He clearly said he has already visited a store numerous times.

    DS are hopeless! I ordered an LG G3 when they had that awesome sale before christmas.. i never received it.. kept contacting them without getting proper answers. Not until 3 weeks after ordering the product they said they ran out of stock and forgot to pack my item. They said they would compensate me with a $20 gift voucher.. never received it. They had my money in their account for over a month before refunding me! And now trying to contact them for my voucher and they keep ignoring my emails. Sorry, but don't hold your breath about getting that activity tracker :-(

      Thanks for sharing your experience. I am not aware how bad they are until I got burnt.

      • I listened to other users on here and decided to private message them on Facebook. I don't always like to cause negative publications on their social media wall as 1. All my friends can see it and 2. I like to give them the chance to fix the problem first.

        Dick Smith got back to me the next morning and send out a gift card on the Friday. I received the gift card on the Tuesday. $20 worth. I was happy they kept to their agreement.. But I do wish I didn't have to go through all that and actually got the phone I ordered.

          Regarding negative publicity, if DSE and other retailers are not honoring their deals, they will attract negative publicity anyway.

          I agree with you that people should give them a chance. But I haven't heard from them for more than a week after their initial reply (possibly automated) via Facebook private message and after several visits to the store.

          And I am planning to post on their page, to warn my friends if they see it and for my friends to avoid these kind of deals and headaches.

    • I had private messaged their team on Facebook few days ago. I got a response for more details next day which was unexpected. I replied them and that was the end of conversation. I cannot post on their Facebook page, but will add a comment to their post soon.

    • Thanks for the post, and sorry to hear that. I never have this problem before, probably because I never bought anything with bonus item before. Well, that's an expensive lesson for me, where I could buy the phone from other store at lower price without the bonus activity tracker.

    Ive bought things with BONUS stuff thats never appeared from DS, even after emailing support with the ORDER & proof it was on offer when i bought it (screen grab)

    gave up, spamed DS emails now… Not worth it!

    I can report my bonus gift actually arrived from RS Online. I'd given up on it appearing, but it arrived the other day (Bahco 25pc 1/4" socket set).
    Scratching me head how it works as I purchased the cheapest thing I could find on sign-up - a $1.25 Stanley Knife (thanks to OzBargainer suggestions!).

    RS shipped the knife to me at no charge. They then posted a Statement/Invoice. They then delivered the Bahco socket set. They then posted another Statement/Invoice. All of the above: goods, administrative, courier and postage costs only came to $1.25?

    WTF? Not that I am complaining though…

    The DSE stores are generally not very flexible. Call the head office perhaps? Or, call your credit card company (if you paid by credit card).
    As for they selling it online at the moment. Checking the stock level, pretty much out of stock everywhere in NSW and VIC (probably most of the other states as well). So it does look like DSE don't have it in stock.

    I am having a similar issue and the common issue might be dse. I bought a pair of bose earphones from David Jones online before Christmas and have to receive them.

    I have been in touch with them more than 10 times and they have claimed out of stock/sent from a different store. No one seems to know where my earphones are. Initially I was told it is being ordered and should be in my possession within 3 weeks. 2 days later it was being sent from the bondi store… No tracking number or anything, its as though its vanished into thin air. Maybe they employ magicians in their electronics department.

    Now I have been told I might be able to get a refund… That's nice, but it was for a birthday present (today). 4.5 weeks and waiting. Great service David Jones. Offer a refund 4 weeks too late, handy. To top it off, it was still saying there was stock in the online store on the weekend.

    Which Dicksmith store you are having problem with?

    I'm currently encountering the same problem and I'm about to send a complaint email and if there's no reply I'm also going to escalate this to ACCC.

    From what i heard ACCC will take a case seriously especially when there are many reports with the same issues.

    Also this is a misleading advertisement by the company… So I'm sure it's big fine and concession applies.

      Thank you for your message, I am currently having issues with Sydney Central Plaza store (located under Myer). I visited their store few times, and they kept saying they will contact me once they have stock, but still haven't heard a thing from them yet. I also sent an private message to their Facebook team, beside initial response, I haven't heard anything back as well.

      Please let me know if you need more details. I am considering ACCC option as well, as my inquiries regarding the bonus item kept falling on deaf ears.
