After advice - Which laptop? Lenovo X1 Carbon or T540p?

Hi all

Work has given us the following choices - would appreciate any input on what I should choose?

Both offer the same internal specifications of 8GB Ram, 250GB SSD, Core i7 CPU.

X1 Carbon

  • 14 inch Screen
  • 1.4KG weight
  • 2 USB ports

T540p

  • Full size keyboard with built in number pad
  • 15.6-inch Screen
  • 2.4KG weight
  • 4-USB ports

    If specs are identical, doesn't it come down to personal preference?

    will you be carrying this around? (1.4 vs 2.4kg)
    are u plugging it into a docking station? (one is 14 inch one 15.6, and one has full keyboard ones smaller)

    really depends what you will do with it (carry it around u meetings etc) or its just on a docking station

    Two completely different ends of notebook. T540P has full power mobile processor vs ULV in the X1 Carbon. It's heavy, with dedicated GPU.

    Also note that the "New" X1 Carbon is now available and T550 has been announced with Broadwell CPU so might want to wait a bit.

      Thanks Scotty. Unfortunately waiting isn't an option, company I believe is looking at these particular models.

      So while the clock-speed are the same - you suspect the T540 will actually perform better?

      Most of my work (~80%) is out at clients, so won't be at a docking station. Current laptop, an Elitebook 8440p is a 14 inch, but a little more screen real estate and built in keypad could be handy… just have to decide if the T540 is worth the extra weight/effort lugging around…

        T540 would be a great choice if it is for work. Extra usb ports, little extra screen, and keypad built-in can help you at work. However, for executives X1 carbon is good choice, because all they do is meetings and emails.

      Went to choose and it seems the option is note for the t550p,so selected this. Thanks for your help all
