Computer Monitor 20-22inch Opinions and Recommendations

hi guys,
so im looking for a new monitor for lightweight gaming and in 20-22inch (not any higher as it wont fit my table). Price not more than $200, adjustable stand height is a plus but not necessary, my Graphics card is geforce 9600gt if that helps.

so i have been looking around and found that the Asus 21.5inch LPS panel vx229h is pretty good for its price for $169 at msy. What do u guys think about this monitor, the asus brand, price, other monitors in this price range?

another competitor is the Asus VX228H 21.5-Inch but it is TN panel but has a 1ms refresh rate compared to the vx229h of 5ms. It is also slightly cheaper. Im guessing the clarity of this one wont be on par with the vx229h.

and then theres samsung LS22D300HY TN panel similar specs to the above just less brightness and contrast but even more cheaper.

Do you guys have any other recommendations? know any bargain/deals at the moment?

    9600GT… oh my the nostalgia.

Few people can perceive the difference between a 2ms and 5ms monitor, so I don't see an issue with an IPS monitor being used for games. Refresh rate is not everything to a gaming panel — there's also input lag to consider. This spec is not usually listed but it can be tested and is documented at display lag database.

Do not worry about the dynamic contrast ratio specs, these are easily fudged by the manufacturer and they mean nothing in real life.

You're not going to get cheap, high colour accuracy and fast refresh rate in all one package. Pick only two. Generally for gaming, TN panels feature the best pixel response times, and it's also the only option you get when you wish to get a 144hz monitor for a budget price. IPS 144hz panels now exist (only released recently) but comes at premium price.

Seriously didn't know anyone actually bought less than 24" these days.

On the 2nd hand market, sellers literally can't give 20" monitors away.

    • I bought a 22" in VGC for $35 last week. I cringe when I think about what I paid for a Sony CRT with the flat glass instead of the curved glass years ago.

  • I sold a used AOC 22" for $50. They are chip as chips now on the 2nd hand market.

HP W2271d 21.5" Monitor LED Black - $99 at Officeworks (may be out of stock)
Dell 22" Monitor (E2214H) - $117 delivered from Dell Factory Outlet, new with 1 year warranty (have one myself)
Both 21.5" Full HD TN monitors but don't take HDMI

    • hmmmm, can you comment on the dell monitor, hows the quality of the colors, gaming etc.

      • Well it's a TN monitor, so viewing angle is somewhat limited (slight gradient with solid colour even when sitting directly in front of the screen) and colours are not that rich (maybe because its a matte display, which reduces glare). Turning the monitor's contrast up to 100 causes oversaturation, so I set it to 80.

It's clearly designed for business use, I see it a lot in hospitals, government departments etc.

Get an IPS if colours/brightness/contrast/viewing angles matter to you. I use it for work and gaming (most modern "mature" games have fairly dull colours anyway) and watch videos and play Nintendo games on my TV.
