Perm. Resident (Visa BS801) Uni fees?

Hi! So my mom, brother and I were granted permanent residency last year but since then I've been on a gap year. I was accepted to Deakin and I'll be back from my gap year to start in T2, in july.

My question is: do I get help from the government in paying my uni fees in any way? I'm not quite sure how much I'll have to pay when I get back to Australia and start uni.

As per the title, I am a holder of a BS801 visa.

If anyone has had the same experience I'd be glad to know how you went about getting tuition help and stuff.

Thanks!

    Yes, you can get HECS-HELP if you are a permanent resident. There are other conditions that must be met.

    To be eligible for a Commonwealth supported place, you must:

    • be an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen or the holder of a permanent visa;
    • meet the citizenship and residency requirements;
    • enrol with a provider in each unit, by the census date;
    • read the HECS-HELP, Commonwealth supported places information booklet;
    • submit a valid Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form to your provider by the census date (or earlier administrative date); and
    • finalise your payment arrangements for your student contributions by the census date.
    • Thanks for that! I checked online and found the same stuff. Now reading the "fees" booklet online from the Deakin website.

      Was also wondering… would submitting what needs to be submitted guarantee help or is it more of game of chance or a waiting list of sorts?

    Ozhunter is not entirely right:

    You can get Commonwealth Supported Place at Uni by being a Permanent Resident as per Ozhunter link. For HECS-HELP you need a special permanent residency as per this link: http://studyassist.gov.au/sites/studyassist/helppayingmyfees… Not all permanents residents are able to get HECS-HELP, it is mostly for Citizens.

    Cheers
