Dodgy Centrecom Store, Were They in The Right?

Hi everyone,

So earlier today I went to Centrecom Clayton to buy another mouse for my new laptop. I wanted a gaming-grade mouse, as I use a Razer Taipan on my main rig and it's really nice. I picked a roccat savu, as underneath it had $39 written and I asked staff member A and he said yep it's $39. So I go to the counter and staff member B scans it and says that'll be $59. I said but it's got $39 there. He looks and it says 'Roccat Savu, $39'. He says no that's a different one and takes the label away. I felt a bit suspicious so I looked on the website: 'Roccat Savu: $39' and all the EXACT same specs were listed. I showed Staff member A and he tells me to get B to process it. I showed him and he looked on the website and there were two Roccat Savus listed, one $39, one $59. He shows me the code of the $59 one is the exact same as the one I chose, yet it doesn't list any specs, yet the $39 one listed literally all the exact same specs. He says he can't do it for $39. I look online and there's only one Roccat Savu model in existence, I show him and say they've probably just listed it twice and didn't realize and just changed the one of them. He wouldn't give in. Was I in the right here or him, as I'm 100% sure there's only one Roccat Savu model in existence?

Who is wrong? It's really irrelevant as hes not obligated to sell it to you for that price.

    Google "invitation to treat"

    The model is irrelevant.

The vendor broke consumer laws by not having correct pricing and should have made good to sell it to you at $39. I had 2 recent experience, an incorrect price tag (Spotlight) and incorrect discount tag (Target), and in both instances the store honoured what was labelled.

Store policy (good will gesture) or consumer law?

      • It was a good will gesture. Otherwise consumers can make it ugly for the vendors for not having a correct price label and report them to ACCC.

  • Centrecom do have 2 of them listed, but the items do look the same to me (with different price and a slightly different SKU).

I found the Hawthorn store quite nice. They were willing to sell 2TB portable hard drives (regardless of which model) for the discounted price at Boxing Day. Call them and confirm they can sell it to you at the correct price.

    • The hawthorn store is fantastic, guys are so friendly there. Only problem is it's super far from my house, I wish the other Centrecoms were like that. But to be honest I think it was a blessing in disguise, the Logitech Proteus Core is only $15 more then the advertised price and $5 less than the 'real' price, and it's a much better mouse. I was just too impatient to wait to get one, and JBHifi Brighton wouldnt price match MSY on one cause they were 'too cheap', which is BS, that's what price matching is, but Southland one would so picking up a Proteus Core today :)
