Changhong 40" FHD for $400 vs DSE 39.5" for $300

I'm looking for a FULL HD TV around the $300-$400 mark, I found these 2.
Any ideas which would be a better deal?
Using it to watch free-to-air / streaming internet content.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

  • I purchased the DSE 39.5" a few months back from their eBay deal ($250), I've found it to be great for the price, have been using it 99% for watching things off USB and as a monitor when playing games from the couch, it's served well for the purpose.

    Couple of small annoyances:

    • 1x USB only.
    • File browsing is shown only in grid view with no option for list, the file name is almost always trimmed, and TV shows usually appears to have the same name for all files.
    • TV guide displays current show for all channels only, no option to expand and display block of few hours.
    • Thanks for the reply Minty, good to know that it's working well for you.
The annoyances you mentioned doesn't seem like a deal breaker
      $250 is a steal!

    Better off going for this

Personally I find it worth spending a little extra to get a better quality panel - I've been using a 46" Bauhn TV for a while now and while I got it for an absolute steal from DealsDirect, there's a lot of backlight bleeding, blacks are poor, and high speed sports (tennis etc) aren't great to watch on it.

  • Bit hard to ignore the 42" Soniq $349.00 -

  • I have a changhong 42" not bad for the money really, but lighting is terrible to bright and sound is shocking! no audio out etc better off going with a real brand.

  • Any update for anyone who has seen/compared or purchased these TV's?

I've been in store and there's never both on display for comparison purposes.

    • the DSE GE6987 is good for the money

only 2 issues, the sound is beyond terrible and there doesnt seem to be a profile in Logitech remotes

      • Would you know which has the better picture quality? I'll be connecting a set of speakers to either anyway, so the TV's sound doesn't bother me too much.

        • next time i'm in DSE i'll have a look

i paid $225 for mine so IMO it'd have to be HEAPS better for the $175 difference…

and yeah, every TV i've got i've hooked up a set of 2.1 spks or the HT system

        • @tonyjzx:

          That'd be awesome.

If it was $175 difference then definitely, but I've seen them recently at about an $80 or so difference, so I would be willing to pay a bit more for the Changhong if it was generally the better TV.
