Smith + Nobel Digital Kitchen Scale Red or Black $19.95 (Was $149.95) @ Harris Scarfe

70

First post here. I was looking for a kitchen scale in Harris Scarfe at Marion SA because of their 50% off on kitchen scale and found this. The Smith + Nobel Digital Kitchen Scale was $149.95 and is reduced to $19.95. Only the red one was in stock and there were still about 20 left when I bought mine. Looks like it is a in store only discount because Harris Scarfe online is only doing 50% off on the original price.

Attached is my receipt as proof for anyone for price match etc.

  • It is worth 20

  • That price it's still expensive, the Aldi's one cost less than that. Harris Scarfe is the most overpriced home and kitchen store I found.

    • In a popular HN bathroom scales deal, I posted almost identical scales at HS at almost half the price. It all depends on the current specials, quality, & product features. There are some great deals.

At least HS mainly stocks known brands. Aldi usually only sell their own trademark Special Buys™ which are produced for a low price, and the limited quantity are sold out quickly.

However, this seems a HS store brand?

[An electronics manufacturer / distributor to Aldi contacted me to consult on improving the quality of their products sold under Aldi trademarks. Knowing what I know, I wouldn't trust Aldi's electronics! But I didn't say that.]

      • nah, it depends on what product, I wouldn't trust Aldi with everything but for some general item like a scale like this, it does the job, of course I'm not gonna buy a kitchen mixer or mobile phone at Aldi. With HS, it's different story, they set their price over the roof with 50% sale every single day, their business model is Myer and DJ wannabe but most of the brands are not premium, even house brand with ridiculous price, sale service is on pair with Big W, Target or the like, stock availability issue. I once tried to get some utensil on sale with no avail but when the sale is over you see plenty of them lying around.

        • Can't comment much on customer service - but staff are always helpful at my local HS store - it has just opened. (Staff usually outnumber customers.)

Checked out Salter bathroom scales (15 year warranty) in Boxing Day sales - less than 1/2 price I could find elsewhere. Good supply & range of colours. Seems a regular sales deal, as I commented on it earlier last year in HN scales deal.

Have mainly shopped in them on my interstate travels, for whatever bargain was on display. I only shop there when the price is right.

Customer service is low on my priorities when shopping for bargains, with price & value/ reliability uppermost.

I'm happy with a $5 delivered kitchen scale from an Shopping Square eBay deal on OzBargain ;-) Its been performing great since 2011.

  • Same brand 3kg scale on sale for $9.95 (save $10) until Tuesday ;-)
