TV's aRe Everything @ Night Time

    • Where is 86? In fact 69 at night time isn't too bad either, not just TV,

  • I still have my Toshiba TV from a few years ago (Thanks OzBargain!) and might consider getting something bigger soon. I'm guessing the Seiki 4K is 30hz @ 4K?

Are there many TVs supporting 4K at higher refresh rates?

  • Is the seiki 55" any good?

  • I'm trying to decide between the Samsung 40" (101cm) FHD LED TV UA40H5000 $469 or the Panasonic 42" FHD LED TV TH-42A400A $489…Anyone got any recommendations?

    • Go the Samsung one, I have the model previous to that and it still works great

    • May not be an issue for you .. but keep in mind neither of these have HDMI-CEC . Whereas both the LG ones do.

As I predicted on the last DSE deal, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/2536665?redirect=1, Dick and his so called 'sale' and codes tactics at it again.

Any opinion on the SMART 42" Pana? Only option now the smart Sony 40" is out of stock (is the Sony any better?). Unless there's a price match to be had anywhere.

    • I know you probably realise already, but imagine selling off your business that actually had your own name in the business title and then years later people are still associating the business and its tactics with your name. There are probably still a bunch of customers out there with no idea Dick Smith has nothing to do with DSE any more. An odd situation really.

  • Don't forget some tv's are delivery only. ie 49.95 delivery for seiki tv

Both of those LG teles are an absolute bargain. Bought the 42" FHD model for my parents a few weeks ago for $675 or something at the good guys and thought that was a good deal thanks to the incredibly slick webOS interface…for $539 its a crazy deal.

Picture quality is fantastic too. :)

Incredible price for the g910 keyboard. I've had mine a couple of months and absolutely love it. I was a bit concerned about the eaised edges on the keys but they dont get in the way at all.

  • UHD = 4K?

    • yes (actually just under 4k but still considered 4k)

Burned my fingers, After i bought and returned Hitachi 60" from Myer sale last time. No more NO NAME TV's. All these Japanese named Chinese morph are not worth the money IMO. I will bite the time and wait for next branded sale from Trent :)

    • +3

?? Hitachi is Japanese. Was founded in 1920. Hardly a no name brand.

    • +3

LOL Hitachi is one of the biggest electronic companies in the world, and they are from Japan!

From consumer electronics like TV, A/C, HDD, fridges…

To industrial machinery, advanced robotics, medical equipments…etc.

      http://www.hitachi.com/businesses/category/index.html

      • But I think Hitachi has been made in China the last few years and subsequently taken a step back from the other leading brands. Could be wrong but I do recall reading poor reviews on a number of their models over the recent (2-3) years.

        • +2

Most electronics are now made in China and other countries in SE.Asia. I mean the TV could be a bad TV but my point is that Hitachi is not a NO NAME brand hahaha.

          Such a joke!

          @xenoic:

Oh yeah I completely agree. Maybe he is a teenager with dad's credit card as anyone older should recognise the brand ;)

That said, I'd pick any number of brands over Hitachi today :)

        • @Click_It: that's not very nice.

    • +3

Hitachi has sold off its tv brand licence to some Chinese company, so it not made my parent company(Hitachi) anymore.

  • Obviously the Seiki is still 30Hz @4K but how about the LG 40" UHD 40UB800T LED? Size wise it's better for a monitor than 55"…

UPDATE: HDCP 2.2-compatible HDMI 2.0 ports, capable of 3840×2160 pixels resolution at a 60Hz refresh rate!

    • Picture will not be full 4:4:4 chroma with res 3840x2160 @ 60hz, 4:4:2 only

      Multiple edits - damn autocorrect!

      • Yeah I read that in the DSE review after my earlier post. I didn't know what it all meant though until just now.

        Pasted from another site:
50% reduction in color information versus 4:4:4, sub-sampling chroma by two. Recorded, compressed ProRes files result in an overall data rate reduction of 33% versus full RGB (4:4:4) encoding.

So, a lot less colour information… does that make it noticably crappier?

        • I honestly couldn't tell you, I was copying and pasting myself - I would imagine so though, just the knowledge that the picture could be better is enough to put me off..

        • From my limited understanding 4:4:4 vs 4:4:2 is going to make minimal difference to most.

  • Seiki and Panasonic 42AS700 now "temporarily out of stock".

  • How about this Panasonic 50" $584 (after discount)
    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/panasonic-50-127cm-full-hd-l…

Catalogue item G4033 (the 50") is in the exclusion list.

      • Damn. Thanks

  • Shame the G910 is so ugly. Would have liked to upgrade from my G710+.

  • Looks like price of G910 back up to $249.98. So the code only brings it down to $219.98

  • +2

Code doesn't seem to be working for some products? Can anyone confirm?

Coupon code "feb60" is not valid. for Panasonic 50"

EDIT: Catalogue item G4033 (the 50") is in the exclusion list. Bugger

DUBBLE EDIT: DS seem to be greasy scumbags re these TV's. Listed out of stock at $589 then next day back in stock at full price.

    • happens all the time, when they had ps4 + 3 games. It was listed out of stock online but store person told me it's available and she couldn't figure out why.

  • Unless your hooking it to a powerful PC 4k is still useless imo.

  • I picked up the LG 40" UHD LED 100Hz TV 40UB800T model. First impressions are great. Quick and responsive GUI is always a great start also the magic remote makes file navigation and general use of the tv feel much more fluid and intuitive. I dont have any 4k content to test out atm but the included 4k sample pictures do the picture justice.
