Cordless Phone

looking for a new home phone. Has to play nicely with 2.4ghz WiFi so in the past I've one with 5.8ghz models but will consider Dect if the technology has improved. (Usually they were cheaper handsets that didn't last in my experience). Would prefer an answering machine and at least 2 handsets but willing to sacrifice either if necnecessary. Anyone know of any bargainsbargains around?

  • Depends on where in Newcastle you are.

If you want to travel to Tuggerah on the central coast you can pick up some of the DECT phones from Panatech at the supacentre (next Tuggerah station)

5.8 and 2.4 can interfere with wifi networks whereas the DECT doesn't.

I bought some KG-TL6821AL units for $15 (but I think they are now $12) I check them out for bargains every now and again.

These are all base units, which include answering machine, but you can register them to one base.

That makes it $45 or ($36 if I am right on the reduced price). They don't have manuals but you can get them online from Panasonic. With 3 "base" units if one fails you can reprogram to the other base unit.

BTW the older lady in the shop programmed them for me, but I bought another unit and it was fairly easy for me to do.

Look up details on the specs at Panasonic, but I think they have more features that the one the pigs has listed.

  • Had many a headache with sub standard cordless phones, there sure is some junk out there :-( … tried all the regular brands and none did the job like I wanted. Then someone recommended Siemens so I got a set (2 story house) 1 phone on each floor, and they have performed just like I would expect a quality piece of equipment to do.
HN's used to sell them but not sure if they still do. May take some looking to find them but they are a step above the rest if you want quality.

    • yeah i got siemens a585. audio quality is great but for some reason the call screening stopped working and i can't get it to work anymore :(

  • I'm in a similar position,

I'd be happy to spend a little more ~ upto 100 $ for a good Landline Cordless Handset.

    • Would need 2 or 3 handsets
    • Love to add Calling bell functionality.
    • Needs to have a good long phonebook and an easy way to add numbers in say 100 numbers.
    • Finally needs a 3.5 Audio Jack to plug in Wired Headset.

Anyone have any that you recommend ?

Also looking at Android based landline handsets, look interesting,,
