Menulog being taken to VCAT over dodgy discounting

Herald Sun

A MELBOURNE man is launching legal action over the price of his Pad Thai.

Business consultant Adam Fox claims takeaway food website Menulog misled customers over its discount policy.

The hungry Heidelberg man was given a 10 per cent discount on a $29.30 order of Pad Thai, coconut rice and four satay skewers from a Thai restaurant in May last year.

But the transaction left a bad taste in his mouth when he found the discount effectively vanished in order to reach the eatery’s $30 minimum.

“Menulog force you to spend the $30, then apply the 10 per cent discount, making it $27, but then because it’s under the minimum order threshold, you must spend another $3. This means the 10 per cent discount becomes 0 per cent,” Mr Fox claims.

that dosnt sound dodgy to me…

  • So…$33 worth of food for $30 isnt really 0% discount. Perhaps not worded the best, but not the type of dodgy that needs to go to court imo.

I think this Business consultant is a little confused.

Mr Fox hopes to relaunch proceedings after his application was recently dismissed because he failed to show up.

The Menulog representative said the company tried to explain its ordering system to Mr Fox on many occasions.

Not worth it commercially to initiate court proceedings for such a trivial matter. He could recoup that amount by monitoring the OzBargain site, lol

considering he failed to show up, i'd say his goal was just to take up their time.

      • he probably wanted free food !…

  • It'd make me rage… but not all the way to court

I think they just printed that story for the puns only lol
