Lost phone with SIM card - depressed

Hi guys,

I've recently lost my phone and SIM card.

I'm planning to activate a new card and was wondering whether it is possible to transfer my lost mobile number onto the new SIM card.

Thanks guys. I'm with virgin.

  • I'm fairly certain that you don't need to keep your old SIM, or even be in possession of it, to be able to port it's number. If your SIM card is lost, destroyed or faulty for e.g a port can still be done.

Now a good reason to buy a smartwatch, it will warn you when your phone strays too far from you :)

    • Correct. Source, I work for a telco.

Sim swap: put your number onto a new Virgin SIM

Yep. Just to be clear, OP, there are two ways, both presented here.

Sim swap = go to Virgin (your current provider) and ask for a replacement sim. A mobile number is just assigned to a particular sim id. You won't lose your number but you will lose all of the contacts that were stored on your sim (no getting around this anyway, if they were stored on your sim or phone and not in the cloud).

Port out = go to a different provider (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, iiNet, Lycamobile, Amaysim, bla) and with your mobile number and account number (if post-paid) or date of birth (if pre-paid) you can move your number to a new provider.

Each is an option for you.

  • Hey,you contact might be saved to Sim, try getting same number and it might be back up. my mate had it back it up on Google 0.o ? and had all his contact on his new phone with new sim old number.
