Collecting a Letter on Behalf of

my dog.

I have a strange question. We received one of those spend $150, get $20 coupon EDR offers.

Despite meeting all conditions, we didn't get the $20 coupon. We contacted the EDR live chat team and after confirming all details, they said they'll send us a gift card instead.

I'm pretty sure that they've sent the $20 gift card via registered + signature post. We found a "sorry we missed you card" in our letter box. The only problem is that this card is addressed to MR Ewok , as the EDR card was registered to Ewok. The only problem is that Ewok is our Shih Tzu.

So my question is, will they let me pick up the letter from the post office? I'm happy to bring Ewok along.Has anyone been in this sitution before? What did you do?

Edit: Off the top of my head, Ewok has the following IDs:his birth certificate, his many graduation certificates and awards, dog tags, council registration papers, a postcard from his vet (addressed to him at this address) to remind him that he is due for a desexing.

Edit 2: We received the $20 giftcard today. So this star track 'parcel' addressed to Ewok is something else. We'll found out soon enough. The kids are so excited about this… and so is Ewok. I might have to take all 3 of them to the LPO tomorrow.

Go to pick it up. It might be a bit awkward trying to explain the situation to the nice man at the post office...but it'll be worth it.

I've got a bag of Popcorn ready for what comments are posted next:)

  • To all those saying go to pick it up, any idea on what I should bring?

Mum does this all the time for me, as long as your address is the same you should be fine. Just show them your ID with the same address. P.S. just in case this is confusing I am 100% human…

  • Check to see if the card has a bit on the bottom, where Mr Ewok can sign the rights to pick-up the letter over to someone else, that Mr Ewok specifies by name on the card. Then that person can take the card down, with their own ID, and pick it up. The parcel-pickup cards I get from Australia Post if I'm out when they attempt to deliver a registered parcel have this. There has to be some provision for someone else to pick up parcels/etc. on behalf of peeps who may be, for example out of the country for a couple of months.

    • I've just checked the card. Its a startrack one and there's no option to collect on behalf of someone else. Tracking says its coming from Brookvale, Sydney.

Just ring up star-track and tell them that Mr Ewok will be out of the country for a couple of months, and how to you go about picking up the letter for him. Your address on your driver's license is the same, so there should be no problem, really.

      • I'm pretty sure that startrack will let anyone sign for it at the post office. Its only the Auspost registered mail that has the option for personal addressee only.

Just bring the latest vaccination certificate.

  • ahahahhaha bring the dog, and proof it's his name. Then say it was a joke that backfired.

    • He answers to his name…the only problem with that is that the PO is in a shopping centre. Would have been funny though :-)

generally if you can prove you live at the same address they dont care what names on the parcel.

  • Get yourself desexed, show the resulting certificate plus the vet's postcard at AusPost.

    • Nah, don't get desexed. I've just seen Sandra Chevrier's "La cage rien est impossible"

When EDR did it for me, it just came with an apology letter and the gift card, which took 3 phone calls and 6 weeks to get a $50 voucher.

I doubt a registered letter would come through StarTrack, are you sure that Ewok hasn't been online shopping?

    • We received the gift card today . It was sent by registered post and required a signature. It was addressed to Ewok, but my wife had asked them to add C/O wicket1120, "in case Mr Ewok was away on business."

Very intrigued by what this parcel that waiting at the post office could be now.

Record a video of Mr Ewok responding to his name…just in case!

This might sound crazy, but… try going down to the post office and just explain the real situation? With any luck, the person behind the counter will be familiar enough to recognise where Ewok the name comes from, and thus, that Ewok wouldn't be human unless he has some really quirky parents (which, probably wouldn't be too surprising these days anyway)… in which case, bringing along some doggy ID would help.

I'd take a gamble and do that, personally. I may be delusional since I've just woken up, but I reckon they'd just let you sign off on it.

Otherwise… call Woolworths and explain your dilemma? Could they potentially change the name of the account and re-send the voucher? (presuming it's worth the $20 to give out your details like that, if you'd rather not do that sorta thing, understandably). Maybe fixing it at the root of the problem might help prevent this issue arising again in the future, if Ewok earns more shopping vouchers and he isn't home to answer the door to the mailman? lol

Thread is also useless without pics! :P He sounds adorable <3

Ok been to the Post office. The person there was really nice and understanding but he did ask for Ewok's papers and my ID. It wasn't a letter. It was a parcel from BBC. Ewok has won an inflatable, life size, blow up…..stig. He is disappointed. so am I :(

    • That's odd It came so late. My prize came a few days after Christmas

      • what hv you done with it?

        • I got a great expectations DVD. Stored it away to give it to rellies I hate.

        • @JJB: But if I was you i'll give it to Ewok all blown up

@Food: Let's just say that cute, little Ewok is the Christian Grey of the animal world. The things he's done to that teddy bear in that first pic …..Stig doesn't deserve that.

I have ordered various things in my dog's name. They knew me at the post office from picking up parcels in my own name. When I had to pick up a few things (freebies) that I had ordered in my dog's name they were fine with it.

My EDR is in my dog's name as well.
