Outdoor Security Camera?

Hey guys, recently people have gone into my frontyard and stolen fruit on one of our trees, I laughed hysterically because they jumped over my fence in the middle of the night to take 2 pieces of fruit. However, it prompted me to look for a security camera that I could monitor on my computer or a monitor or whatnot. I've looked around but prices vary from 100-500 and I can't tell what's good and bad. I'd appreciate if anyone who also has a camera installed outside their home to help me find one!

  • Like to know as well

  • I've seen D-Link IP units and been pretty impressed by it. It operates through Wifi so no wires needed except for the AC supply and it has built in software that you connect from a computer, tablet or smartphone to view it. To view it over the internet, you will probably need a DNS account.

Benefit of IP cameras is that you can add as many or little as you want and only needs Wifi to work off.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to put up a sign suggesting they could just ask for some fruit? Or maybe you could sell some?

  • I'd like to know as well. Possibly one that record too.

These are off the hook awesome bang for buck easy to set up and use, run Poe (power over Ethernet) so only 1 cable required (I am not endorsing this seller or proclaiming this is the best price, it's the first seller that came up). I have a fleet of them at home and just referred my work to this model who installed a stack of them.

    • thanks! But is this the actual model you use or some chinese knockoff, it's pretty cheap

  • We have a similar issue which we have not experienced for more than 10yrs. They got into our front yard and took away two plant pots.
I am thinking of getting this CCTV package at Jaycar. (http://m.jaycar.com.au/m_productView.asp?ID=QV3012#5)
Does anyone have ever DIY and have an experience with this stuff?

  • Good idea. Someone stole a bag of potting mix in my mum's backyard once. It's only $3 a bag. Gosh!

She also has mangoes and other fruit taken from her trees also.
