Pls Suggest a Hard Drive Dock or case and cable for this.

Hey Guys,
I just removed this Hard disk from an old Aldi NAS that wasn't working. Looking for a case and cable that I can use to retreive all the data from here.

This is what the port on the hard drive looks like. see the pics here, I think it's one of the larger ones and will need power and a data connection as shown on the sticker, just don't know which one to buy.

The Hard Drive is a Seagate Serial ATA,

Here are some of the pics of the Hard drive / connector. Thanks,

search for Orico 3588US3-BK on third page under "3.5'' HDD Enclosure" - assuming you want USB3

If MSY not suitable, search on staticice.com.au :)

this is what enclosure/case looks like: http://www.mwave.com.au/product/orico-3588us3bk-usb-30-tool-…

You need a 3.5" sata hdd enclosure.

Pick any from your nearest cheapo computer store

  • If you have a desktop computer, it's very likely that you can plug it straight into the motherboard with the cables that came out of the NAS.

    • Thanks, I don't have a pc. Only laptop. So I have to get a dock.

Well,in that case you have no choice, you will have to buy a dock, even if you find a cable for the 12v and 5v,usually Laptops don't have the 12v required, so you will need a power source for the voltages.

Why bother with a cable ? If you will get a dock in $30-$50

    • Yes I'll get a dock.

Just found out that the hard drive has special Unix based files system. I can't simply copy the data out 😢😢😢

      • Yeah, the NAS was probably based on Linux. If you can boot your laptop off a live Linux CD or DVD you can mount the external Linux disk as well as the internal Windows disk and copy the data to it. That is assuming you have a DVD drive. If not, perhaps boot off a live Linux USB stick.

        • Use Unetbootin to make a bootable Linux USB drive.

      • …which one? and what were the files stored? just photos?

        • Thanks for the tips guys, yes, getting the hard disk dock today. Next will have to do some Unix things which I have no idea about yet, learning slowly..

The data is, document abs stuff from years abs photos of all family trips and the like,
