PayPal Is Increasing Fees (Again)

Surprise, surprise. Our good friends at PayPal are increasing their fees again - effective tomorrow.

From their email today:

From 12 February 2015, the standard fee for domestic transactions will increase from 2.4% + $0.30 to 2.6% + $0.30.

Sellers, what do you think of the improvement in fees? ☺

Keep rising their fees along with ebay and they will soon just choke on their own " ".
Anyone ever seen the net profit figures from these two… some damn big numbers. Greed just does not cut it.

Hey, come on now. They have to pay for their superb Buyer's Protection Policy. Rumour has it that they have a Seller's Protection Policy, too, but I have seen no evidence of it. Two ridiculous decisions against me as a seller. The more ridiculous one of the two was when I sold a Foxtel extender thingy (for when you don't have a telephone point near your Foxtel box). I had a photo or two of the item I was selling and the description read something along the lines of "Perfect for those who have lost or broken their Foxtel-supplied transmitter". Buyer gave me negative feedback and claimed that the item was not as described because she couldn't use it without a receiver unit! I'm a lawyer, so I gave PayPal pretty cogent reasons why her claim should be rejected. No good. I think I sold it for $10 or thereabouts. Surprise, surprise, when PayPal told her that she'd have to return it to me and pay for the privilege, she closed the "case". Probably sold it for $20.

I haven't sold anything on eBay for years now. Gumtree and OCAU trading forums are more than sufficient :)

OCAU forum is terrible, a bunch of broke people you can't afford anything.

  • As eBay owns Gumtree, maybe they want people to get hooked on that and then they'll charge fees there too??

    • +2

the cancer known as Paypal has already infected the Gumtree

eBay, Paypal, Australia Post and the ATO.. it's hell from all four corners for small business owners like myself. Especially when I depend on eBay for the international reach which is a good chunk of our business.

Eventually we'll have to move it on, it's just not affordable to keep it going with the way these pay rises are going!

They dip their hands in every which way possible and now they raise fees?!

Isnt there a new visa & mastercard paypal type thing… checkout or something?

Hopefully they keep there rates At a decent rate and it migrates to them with online business.. You could even Give an additional 1% discount or what ever the difference in margin is between paypal and checkout, To Encourage the buyers to start signing up to these new services… As I assume the paypal fees are just added into the price anyhow…

But yes, Its gone from Ebay being a cheap place to shop, To now, Most items are 10% more than can get from shop directly. If ebay shop has there name, I always google it and see if they have a website to order from directly or Ask if they can do cheaper from a non ebay sale.. (mainly people with multiple items businesses not 1 off items)
The curtins we just bought for instance ended up $35 cheaper than buying on ebay, They didnt take the whole ebay fee off, But wastnt far off, And ended up like true Free postage compared to the ebay listing…

  • They have user data and observes behaviour then they attack at right time. Greed Greed Greed
