Absolute Cheapest Unlocked Android Phone?

What are my options? I'm upgrading from a Nokia 3310! So I'm not fussy.

  • You will be fussy once you find out that the majority of low-end Android phones lag terribly.

The minimum I would go for is probably the Huawei Ascend Y550 (also known as the Vodafone Mario 4G, Huawei phones are also by far the easiest to unlock with unlock codes costing around $5.50 from ozbargain user Bagman.

A step up from that would be the Motorola E, the Motorola G (2013) or Moto G (2014).

    • Thanks scrim had $50 in mind but those are some very impressive specs, do deals come up for this phone? Don't want to spend $80-$100 if can avoid it.

why not set up an alert?

        Head to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/

Type in some keywords, for example, Huawei Y550 or Huawei Ascend then hit Enter

        Then click "Create search alert"

        • Done! Didn't know about that feature cheers :-)

  • My old cheap <$100 huawei phone was ok at first, but then you download and install some basic apps, then it turns into a piece of laggy turd. Even lagged when trying to make a call or text. My patience only lasted a year and I wished I spent that money on a better phone in the first place, at least a mid end phone. Felt like I flushed the money down the loo as the phone is worthless now. At least you would get some money back on a Samsung galaxy 2.

  • Yum cha androidphone? I got a landvo l200 for $90 which I'm happy with, coming from an iPhone 4s.

  • elephone g2 is on pre-order at the moment.

  • Thst Elephone G2 looks good deal for price.

Ive used vifocal few times for phone spare parts and assecories etc. Well priced and direct from China. Although took about 3 weeks delivery even when ive paid for express shipping

Having bought a Y550 yesterday, I can't recommend it enough. Great phone, awesome specs, $4.11 unlock from eBay.
It's a work phone for me and does all that I need and more.

  • Try Aldi, they often sell cheap Android phones with good specs, plus they come with a 12 month warranty. Last week they had a choice of a Windows 8.x or Android (kitkat) for around the $130 mark.
I've had to try out their warranty after about 5 months and they simply replaced the phone.

  • I've got a THL T6S that I am very happy with. Got it on aud.dx.com and they have loads of other cheapie android phones. Have a look at a site like Whirlpool where they have a dedicated forum thread on China Androids with lots of good information on quality and experiences.

    • How is the 1900mAh?

      • Get the THL 4000, the battery is huge.

        • wow 4000mah! well worth the upgrade!!!

      • It easily lasts a day of use if only making and receiving calls. If I start using GPS or playing games, then the battery drains quite quickly. There is absolutely no lag on it and havent had an app that won't work on it yet.

The GPS accuracy is not as good as compared to my previous phone, which was an Huawei.

  • I have y550 and it is brilliant for everything i use apart from camera which is barely passable. For $89 and with $40 cap included when i bought it, it was an awesome deal.
