Sydney International Airport Parking

Hi all, We're leaving overseas for a month in April and would like to know the best deal for parking. Checking their website I got a quote of $199 which sounds quite good, but maybe there is something even better. Thanks!

  • Get a friend or a relative to drop you off at a train station and take the train instead.

    • better still. As long as you don't live at "Canberra or Newcastle" get a friend or relative to drop you right at the terminal & pick you up on your return & offer them $150-$190 cash.

  • Depending on number of people, taxi can be a reasonable choice. Train ticket costed me like $15, and that was few years ago.

Since you've asked about parking, I'd assume that you want your car there for some reason?

  • Can you take taxi? That would be cheaper than $199 ;)

    • +1

depends where they live. Not cheaper if live in Canberra or Newcastle.

      • +1 to this
I'm off to LA this week with wife and daughter..

$229 parking fee for the 16 days was better value than
        - alternate parking locations, which were about the same price and had transfer/shuttle bus hassles
        - train, which by the time you add the three return tickets, the extra hour or 2 of travel and the hassles of luggage just isnt worth it
        - alternate transfers, which are just inconvenient or expensive
        - having family drop us off, but decided not to inconvenience them

pretty sad that parking costs about 1/3 the cost of a single return flight from SYD to LAX :)

        • surely you know someone reliable who's either not working at all, or not working when you wish to go to & from airport.

Wouldn't you rather give them the money, or if they have a car that would fit you all in, use your car & pay them a little less ?

        • @travelwiz:

Yes, but when I factor in essentially 3 hour round trips for say my parents to drive us there and back, and then them having to wait around if the return flight is delayed, and then them having to deal with either keeping my car in their driveway or shuffling the car around…. Well, I just think my parents deserve their free time more than $200 :)

        • @SBOB: 3 hours. Where do u live ?

          Outside Sydney ?

        • @travelwiz:

Newcastle area, so depending on time of day airport is somewhere around 2 hours so really it should be 4 hour round trip for someone to drive there and back

  • If you're already in Sydney, defs just take a taxi.
Otherwise, get a relative to lend a hand. I had a friend drive me and my sister back from the airport to Canberra a few years ago (granted I think he was trying to get in my sister's pants at the time)…

    • relative or friend doesn't have to do it for nothing !!!

      Pay them.

$229 divided by 2 is $114.50 each way, it's effectively costing you, plus in your own car it costs fuel etc. just to get there & always chance in a public car park of damage or something stolen off your car.

Perhaps give them $50 to $100 each way. Cheaper & they can drop you off right at terminal & tell them roughly when you'll be ready to be picked up, ie an hour or so after your flight home lands. (perhaps they could check online if your flight home is ontime)

Maybe if more people did this, then airport parking might get cheaper. It's all about supply & demand. Drop the demand side & price may drop.

  • Thanks everyone! The thing is we are 4 people and 8 suitcases almost for sure. And we live in the Hills area with no relatives in the country, and some friends but none living close enough. Plus, we are leaving and coming back on a weekday, which is more difficult for anyone to take you to and from the airport.
A taxi won't cost us less than 100 each trip, nor a shuttle bus. And the train is not an option, as mentioned.
I guess we have no better option then, than to leave the car parked at the airport.

  • Don't park at the International Term car park . Its a rip off . I would strongly advise park at the Emu Blue Car park - they have reg buses from there to the Domestic term every 15 mins for FREE . Change onto a T1 bus Ii or do what i do - after i get off the bus at T2 get a taxi !! 8 bucks and ya at T1 departures !!!
Car parking at Emu blue is about $140 for 31 days . Its safe and secure - although its open air - your car is safe . been parking there for years !!!

  • Domestic Terminal Car Park 3 ?
