Using Vodafone PocketWifi with Optus Sim

I have an unlocked Vodafone Pocket Wifi, in which, I use Optus SIM card. Everyday I have to click edit and submit the API setting to ensure it works with Optus. Does everyone else have the same issue. It would stop every day but it works okay otherwise

Is my best bet to go with Optus mobile broadband WiFi devices due the frequency being potentially different?

Thanks

  • Sorry, off topic, just wondering is that the 4G version? If so, how much did you pay to unlock it?

  • This is 3G+ version (model no R208). It came unlocked. I bought it when it was 50% off at Target last December.

    • Ah cool thanks for clearing that up.

  • I using the r208 with optus sim same as u without have to enter each time it is swtiched on
Create a new custom account under mobile connection setting and set the apn to internet and save
You will have enter the mobile number ( i dont think it uses it)
The modem is quadband anyway so it covers all the optus 3g freq

  • I have an earlier model that I still use occasionally. Unlocked, and ok initially, but the firmware certainly wanted me to start using a Vodafone SIM again…

The fix for me was to delete all the previous profiles in the API settings, leaving the unit with only one, Optus profile, to work with. Assuming that you don't have a faulty unit (or one with properly corrupted firmware), that strategy might also work for you.

    • Thanks Tas. Can you guide me on how to delete all the previous in API settings?

      • My modem isn't handy.

From memory… I had to edit each, deleting previous data in each field, then saving the 'unsaveworthy' profile, 'til each was gorn.
        Something like that…
        Maybe…
        I forget to be honest!

If your firmware allows it, you will figure it out.

  • I have an R208 (Pocket Wifi Extreme) and it automatically chooses from the Custom profiles (saved before) for Optus and Telstra. Of course it reverts to auto if a Voda SIM is inserted.

    Never a problem.

I also don't understand the OP's original instruction re: submitting an API link each day. Never had to do that.

I have configured 3 of these R208's. All were unlocked out of the box. The only key code needed was for upgrading the firmware. A search on the internet resulted in the (free) code generator for the firmware update process.

The updated firmware (from Vodafone) apparently enhances compatibility with frequency ranges. (all a bit vague).

(EDIT - best performance by far is on Vodafone service. typically 10/6 Mbps all day every day)

    • Hey, any website for instructions on how to update the firmware? Do I need any special software to do that? thanks

      • Google it…. R208 firmware…..
