The Onda v919 is a fantastic tablet with a great hardware and an amazing retina display (2048x1536).
The dual boot option works very well an it is easy and fast to switch between the two OS.
The look of the tablet is inspired to the iPad Air.
It is available in two different (32 or 64 gb or internal storage) and you can buy it at a very affordable price.
The coupon offers a 10$ discount price. I also have a coupon for the the 32 gb model (ICGCUZTT).

I received the coupons to insert them in the full review published on my site… I decided to share them here in OzBargain because I think that is a great deal and the table is very nice… a lot of users already ask me via youtube the coupons… that's way I have decided to share them.

Looks like a nice device, but the price in the title is in USD and is actually $229.99USD.

The price in AUD is $296.34 and the code gives a discount of $12.35AU, meaning that the price is $283.99AU (with free shipping).

    • Yes sorry for this… I corrected the title of the deal

Has otg, but no USB ports…:s
    Not bad…

Op sounds a little like a rep… But all good.

    • +2

      More than a little!

(PS. I'm also interested in the nice table…)

  • If it has both Windows 8 & Android installed, how much space is left? Can't imagine there will be much left on the 32GB model. Also, no USB ports is problem for windows users. It looks like it's actually a Android tablet that had Windows thrown on as an afterthought.

Still, ~$280 is not bad for a (almost) 10" tablet with UHD

    • +1

the micro usb port has OTG function… so you can connect an USB HUB :) Like I did in the review… take a look

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLZ0fvPuScY

Yes, I suggest to buy the 64gb… I have the 32gb and for the user there are around 8,5 gb available in the windows partition and only 6 in the android Partition… With the 64 you will not have problem of free space.

      • +2

the micro usb port has OTG function

I realize that, the problem is (a) you need a OTG drive and (b) can't use external storage while charging - something you'll need to do quite often, judging by user comments

I've read a little more about the tablet. Seems it doesn't have GPS or HDMI out. I take back what I said above … I wouldn't touch this.

    • This is not a big deal because in that site shipping costs are not free.

With the slow China Air Post mail shipping will cost 26 $… and with DHL shipping is 32$…
On Geekbuying the shipping is free!

      • i would still pay the extra to get DHL from Geekbuying though… Much quicker and only about $7 more.

        • Oh yeah! DHL is a very good courier. I always use it.

    • Thats 32gig model

If you dont need the extra screen size a lot of people are giving good reviews of the Teclast x80h, 8 inch. I ordered one recently from geekbuying and should get it soon, came to just under $190 AUD express shipped with case. The 9.7inch varient is only $197.69 USD ($255 AUD) on geekbuying and also gets great reviews it seems

    • Keeping in mind there are different varients of these tablets with different features. The Air3G Teclast x98 is still $10 cheaper than the Onda though. Not saying the Onda is a bad deal, just theres options and this seems to be about the price point at the moment for these devices.
      http://www.geekbuying.com/Search/?keyword=teclast+x98

      • Agreed. It's a better buy. It's got GPS, SD card slot and HDMI. The downside is that it doesn't come with a 64GB version.

    • +3

I might be able to provide a coupon soon for the x98 if enough people want it.

      • @Clear, does the x98 3G have a 64GB version? I'd be more than happy to get one. 32GB is just too small with dual OS installed

        • Unfortunately Geekbuying does not have a 64GB version and I have not seen one elsewhere.

        • Geekbuying doesn't have it, but yes, the X98 Air 3G does come in a 64Gb version:
          http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/9-7-Teclast-X98-Air-…

        • @shake: Great, I might get one from China

        • @shake: Worth mentioning that there are 2 versions of the X98. The X98 Air and X98 Air II.

        • @Clear: Yep. The naming is a bit confusing, but after spending some time looking into it, this is my understanding:
          - the older models were the X98 Air (WiFi only) and the X98 3G (WiFi + 3G)
          - then in second half of 2014, Teclast brought out the second-gen X98 models -> X98 Air II (WiFi only), and X98 Air 3G (WiFi + 3G)

So the X98 Air 3G is the same hardware as the X98 Air II (with the exception of the 3G connectivity).

I've only accounted for the hardware variants here - obviously each of the above models can come in various OS flavours (ie, Android, Windows, dual OS).

        • +1

@shake: Yep, they made it confusing. The one with 3G also has GPS.

        • I would like to get the 9.7" Teclast X98 Air 3G Dual Boot 2GB RAM 64GB model. Can Geekbuying get it and ship it faster to Australia than Aliexpress?

        • @Captain Fuzzychops: Unfortunately the staff at GB are on holidays until the 25th, as is most of China due to the Chinese New Year. I'd have to wait until then to speak to a rep.

        • @Clear: Is GB going to stock the 64GB version? If yes, then I might get one from GB. It could be faster.

The specs say "3G external". Does that mean you need to plug in a 3G dongle?

        • @xiangtan: I would have to ask them. By the way, I'm actually not employed by Geekbuying, that is why I'm marked as Associated and not Store Rep.

        • @Clear: OK, thanks

        • @xiangtan: Yes, a USB one with an OTG cable.

        • @Clear: that's a deal breaker. I thought 3G was built in

        • @xiangtan: The X98 Air II does not have 3G, but the X98 Air does.

        • @Clear: Does the X98 Air have 3G built in?
          EDIT: it doesn't

        • +1

@xiangtan: I see a lot of confusing comments above, so I'll try to clarify it again:
          - X98 Air II does NOT have 3G built in
          - X98 Air 3G does have 3G built in

The Aliexpress listing that both I and xiangtan have linked to (from seller "Leader Hitech"), is for the X98 Air 3G, and yes, it has 3G built in.

Also as an FYI, "Leader Hitech" will ship the tablet to Australia via DHL for free (or already included in the price, depending on how you look at it). Officially they say 3-6 business days - I ordered on Wed night, and it arrived on Mon morning.

In contrast, my Geekbuying order (which I upgraded to DHL shipping) took over a week to get to me. (Shipping time was about the same, but they took 3-4 days to actually despatch the item.)

Hope that helps a bit. If you want the 64GB version of the X98 Air 3G, then don't let shipping times stop you from buying on Aliexpress - just make sure you're getting DHL shipping. (And obviously I am only talking about my experience with Leader Hitech, I can't vouch for the other sellers on Aliexpress.)

But Clear is right in that all of the Chinese sellers are going into Chinese New Year holiday, so either way you'd have to wait until they resume order processing.

        • @shake: Are you sure it's got 3G built in? It clearly says: Extend Port:3G External. Once you have received yours please post back.

        • @xiangtan: I have my tablet - as I already said above, it took less than 3 business days for it to arrive via DHL from "Leader Hitech" on Aliexpress.

I can tell you it has a SIM card slot on the side of the tablet - but unfortunately I don't have a SIM to test it with, so can't confirm whether it works.

        • @shake: That's good to know, thanks. How's your overall feel with the tablet? Is it smooth when you open an app or have you noticed any lag?

        • @xiangtan: I've been playing with it for a week or so now, and using it every day for the past 3-4 days. So far I'm hugely impressed with it - screen is very responsive and bright, no lag when opening apps etc. Granted I mainly use it for web browsing and email, and usually only have up to 6 tabs open at once, so I'm not a very demanding user - but coming from my old iPad 2, this feels like a big step up.

By the way - if you (or anyone) is looking for an X98 Air 3G, I'm selling one of mine (still unused and brand new in the box). PM me for details.

    • $190 is a rip banggood have it for $156 and they have 6% and 10% off most everything which makes it even cheaper.

  • Looks like one side is Pizza and other side is spaghetti. Need to think about drivers compatibility on single device for both OS's.

  • Just google "Onda V919 3G Air "

Sold for 165 USD right now

    http://www.dealsmachine.com/best_212333.html?currency=AUD&gc…

    • This is the Android only version, with 16gb storage only.

      • yes, I think that the Deal that I have posted is one of the best offer at the moment!

  • Have a look at this deassemble video.

    http://youtu.be/vspDY3mw7fw

Comparing the teclast x98 air 3G and the onda v919. The interial was terrible on the onda model. Cable and very messy, using mono speaker while having duel speaker holes to mislead ppl. Also battery only has 6200mah compared with 8500mah of the teclast.

I would go for the Teclast.

    • Also the Teclast is not perfect… the speed of the internal memory is very very low… take a look

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed8MzE4JIXA

      • Agree teclast not perfect due to slower HD speed. But as per your video, the onda has
        - a darker screen,
        - mono speaker with lower volume,
        - unstable WiFi that will drop off from time to time,
        - annoying home button that user will touch by mistake[quite many times that guy had mis-press it during the comparison],
        - and lower battery life.

I will not choose the onda model.

  • The Customer Reviews look pretty dodgy for this item. Make sure you use PayPal. Is this a legitimate seller? Has anyone had experience buying from geekbuying.com?

    • Do a search on this site and you'll find several front page deals. The most common issues you'll find people have online is the language barrier and shipping delays. A lot of people use the slower free shipping which can take up to 30 days and blame us when it hasn't arrived in 2 weeks, or if it's busy time of the year e.g. Christmas. The other issue is the language barrier, however our customer service is improving.

I'm associated with an employee of Geekbuying, but not an actual store rep. Obviously you can only take this with a grain of salt, but from my own personal experience I've made 10+ orders over the last 2 years and my only DOA was refunded after providing proof that it was DOA (video).

      • @clear I ordered the Teclast x98 from Geekbuying on the 12th of this month and checking today (21st) it is still saying "Payment Confirmed(Processing)". I went for the express delivery option so that I could have my item in time for my overseas trip end of the month. In your experience do you think I stand a chance of delivery next week? Does processing mean anything has even progressed with the order since I ordered.

        • Chinese new year started on the 15th. It's likely that the order has been processed and is ready to ship. Which express option did you go for? DHL, EMS or TNT?

        • leemako - your experience mirrors mine. I paid to upgrade to DHL shipping because I wanted it ASAP, but Geekbuying took 3-4 days to ship my order out, quite frustrating. The delay in your case is worse than mine though.

Technically Chinese New Year started on the 19 Feb, but I guess it's up to each business when they commence their holiday period. In my communications with Geekbuying, I was told they would be off from the 18th onwards. So it's poor form of them to leave your order in processing for so long in my view. (FYI - when they finally shipped my tablet out, I received a DHL tracking number.)

When I ordered my second X98 from Leader Hitech on Aliexpress, I checked to make sure they would ship it before Chinese New Year - and luckily they kept to their word, and shipped it out the very next day after I paid.

        • @Clear: DHL, and no I haven't received my tracking number unfortunately. In comparison I ordered from newegg two days ago, also paid for DHL delivery and received my order today - now thats fast. Even if their holiday period did start on the 15th my order was placed 3 days prior and the least they could have done was contact me to say it will be majorly delayed and if I wanted to continue with my order. I have contacted their service desk a few days back and am yet to receive an answer.

My advice to other ozbargainers is not to touch this store unless you are willing to wait over a month for your product

        • @leemako: Unfortunately it would seem they haven't shipped your order out before the 2 week holiday. If you send me your order number I can see if something can be done about it.

These problems people are experiencing are only happening because it's Chinese New Year. I don't think even DHL China would be operating in this period because China mail isn't. There are very few staff at Geekbuying right now, so you won't get a response from the service desk unfortunately, and you're going to find this is the case with a lot of the competitors.

Outside of the holiday periods you will definitely get your packages before a month. I live in Tas where there is no DHL and I've had my packages arrive in 2-3 days after shipping with TNT and 3 weeks with free airmail.

        • @Clear: thanks for that. Order number #3272463 . If they cant guarantee delivery to Melbourne 3065 by end of this week I will need to either get a refund or have them deliver to a UK address instead. FYI this isnt my first order with Geekbuying, after my first experience I had some trust in the company so was a little disappointed by all this.

        • @leemako: Alright, I've passed it on to a staff member. I'll let you know when I hear back.

    • geekbuying is one of my favourite stores… they are semi OK if you can stand to wait a month or more for postage.

had an issue with my TV stick I bought took a while, they said send it back to them, which would have been a bit of a pain… don't believe they pay return postage, but kept playing with it and got it working well enough…

    • +1

I have ordered from Geekbuying before, though not this Onda tablet. They are a legitimate seller, but beware that their customer service can be dodgy (and slow), so don't expect easy returns/refunds if anything goes wrong.

  • Sorry to hijack this post - but if anyone is after the Teclast X98 Air 3G, I'm selling mine (which I bought from Geekbuying). It's still brand new in the box and unused. PM me for details if interested. Thanks.
