Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Review and Availability in Australia

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew much about the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini? How does it compare to the S4 normal one and the S5?

Also do any stores sell these phones or are they only available online or via grey imports?

I am contemplating purchasing one of these as a second phone, but it seems there is little information available regarding it in Australia.

Lastly, if anyone knows or has seen a good price for this I would love to know, the cheapest I have seen is about $300 from Kogan (including shipping).

  • The Samsung Galaxy S* mini devices are seen as 'budget' variations of the vanilla S series, but some reviews still pan it because they're priced too high given their intended audience and their generally 'weak' specifications.

For e.g this phone has a very low-res QHD display and 8GB of internal storage (5GB usable). when competing phones such as Moto G and the Nexus 4 which sells for the same price & has much better specs overall

this is the reason why Samsung hasn't done well in terms of sales, because they don't get that people who are after budget phones might not neccessarily be after budget specifications — they want a nice display and a good amount of processing power under the hood for a lower price. So this year they are focusing on lower cost phones targeting developing markets which will represent much better value than their previous Galaxy mini series.

You could do a whole lot better for $300 dollars. LG G2 for instance, is a bit over $350, but very well worth it.
There's also the OnePlusOne but it's closer to $400.

But at the lower end (less than $300) you can always look at the Moto G 2014, Zenfone 5 (LTE version), and the upcoming Zenfone 2 (rumour has it that it retails for $199 USD, but this phone will be out in March).
