Night Mouth-Guard - Query for Buying

Night Mouth-guard

Due to grinding my teeth over many years, they are worn down badly and I am told that currently the most economical option for me is to use a mouth-guard. My friendly dentist advised that this would be $600 which is a lot of money for an aged pensioner.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I could get a night mouth-guard cheaper? After researching over the internet, I was thinking of possibly using mail order- if they were able to somehow send me material for a mould for my teeth which I could do and then send it back to them? Do you think this would work and/or has anyone done this type of thing?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • Cheapest option would be sports mouth guard available at chemist.

The mouthguard your dentist is referring to is an occlusal splint. This must not be confused with a sports mouthguard. Wearing a sports mouthguard to sleep may cause your jaw to become more symptomatic. Occlusal splints range from $400 to $650 depending on your dentists' suburb/location. For it to work effectively it must be adjusted and fitted to your bite. You can try your local government community clinic if you're an aged pensioner.

  • I have had both an expensive one from the dentist and a mail order one from the US via eBay. The dentist one will fit great and should last a couple years or so depending on how bad your grinding is. The mail order one i bought fits pretty bad even though it was the kind where you make a mold and send it back to them, and it fairly flimsy. I reckon you may just have to save the $600 unfortunately. Comfort is one of the big issues as you're sleeping with it, i couldn't imagine sleeping with a bulky sports mouthguard for 6-8hours

  • My son had the same problem like you teeth grinding.
If you live around melbourne CBD. I may recommend good and cheaper night mouth guard to you.
My son paid less than $500 for it.
