Referral Links Valid after 'X' up-Votes

Something I was just thinking of, given that group-buy referral links (like Groupon) aren't allowed, as a way of preventing people spamming average deals. What if it was allowed, was in the system as it currently is, but either:

  1. didnt show on the deal at all until a set number of up-votes (lets say 10-15, enough to hit front page), or
  2. was greyed out until such time as it had enough up-votes

This would prevent deal spamming for referral credit, as the community could decide what they felt about the deal.

Sometimes it's nice to give back, and I for one asked a poster recently for his/her referral link via PM… Took nothing for me to do, but I wouldn't have known about the deal otherwise.

Then users can decide if they want the cashback, or to put money into the OP's pocket!

Not sure if the system allows for something like that currently, but just thought it would be beneficial :)

    Yes it's interesting idea to slow referral spams. You mean NOT showing OP's referral link but still showing the randomised one, until the deal reaches a certain number of votes?

      And also could be applied across the board for anything where the referrer is the only one to get a payment (like Ozsale etc)

      i'm of the opinion that random ones should only be shown unless it is posted as a referral deal.

    With the update from this morning, OP's referral link will not show in the grey referral box if

    • the deal has less than 5 votes
    • OP is L or P plated poster

    The random link will continue to show.

      Scotty, just wondering why we're allowing referral links in the post, if it's not going to show in the box till 5 upvotes? Just seem to contradict each other

        Referral in the post will mark yourself as a "Referral" (grey box next to your username) which then referral limit would apply (maximum 2 referral posts per week maximum).

          I think this original thread was about the number of votes needed before the OP's referral code/link shows in the referral system (was 5 votes, now 25 votes). We can keep it open for that subject.

          I've just closed a few no longer relevant referral threads though, since we no longer have referral wiki's or manual referral links in deals.
