Cheap Android Replacement Phone for The Wife

Hi everyone,

The wife's Galaxy S2 4G just died and we're looking for a new affordable phone for her (under $150). Not really too sure what to buy, it's mainly for texting and calls plus some facebook and browsing. Would be nice to give her a screen upgrade too. Has to be android though as that's what she's used to.

I've seen these 2 as options online, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about them or something better? Would prefer to buy 'in-store' or at least online with a good return policy if there are any troubles (not the cheap China phone websites!)

Any thoughts or alternatives are welcomed!

    Get this - http://www.dicksmith.com.au/prepaid-mobile-phones/vodafone-m…

And unlock it from Bagman - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/167230

This is the most popular OZB android phone right now.

  • The Moto E is a good enough phone for someone who only calls and texts, but without 4G browsing speed is slightly slower. And the storage is a little stingy too. But otherwise, a good low end device with official Lollipop support. few low end phones in the Aussie market will get lollipop 5.0.

The Vodafone Mario, Huawei Y550 is a 4G device at a super low price of $89 dollars and it will do 4G, and is a very good value device generally if you aren't too fussed about the low amount of storage, and the somewhat lousy camera, though the Moto E's camera is just as poor. It is unlockable at a low, low fee of $5.50 from Ozbargain user Bagman.

For a good priced, powerful 4G quad core phone with loads of internal memory, matching the Galaxy S2's 16GB storage, you can try the Kogan Agora 4G+ however it is made by BenQ and you're buying it online not brick/mortar shop. It's also $230

Thanks for the advice guys, at $89 plus a few dollars to unlock it looks like I'll be heading to Dick Smith tomorrow to grab a Y550!

  • Another +1 for the Y550.

I bought it for $89, and got the unlock code for $3.25 from eBay.

Bought from DSE or Voda, the phone also comes with a $50 starter kit for good measure.
