Cheapest Ethernet cable

So my 8 year old Ethernet cable decided it didn't want to transfer data anymore and has decided to change career paths to being used to tie rubbish down on the back of my ute.

So now I'm so n the market for new cable. Anyon know where I can get some cheap? Thanks

  • Try searching on Static Ice.

MSY is usually the cheapest. PL-CAT6E10M 10 Meter Cat6e Network Cable for $7 dollars.

    • "cat6e" doesn't exist. There's cat5e, cat6 and cat6a. Anything that claims "cat6e" (very common with cheapo no-name cables off eBay and other stores like Octagon, Arc, etc.) is lying and should not be trusted.

If you want something safe, get a proper cat5e or cat6 cable. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find cheap ones that will still work well.

Otherwise, you could just take the risk - but there's a good chance it'll fail pretty quickly, and even worse if you wanted to use GbE with its higher tolerances. Some of them simply won't work with GbE at all, even when new, despite the claimed rating (which, again, is nonexistent).

  • msy have them pretty cheap ones
Cablelist is the brand i bought from them

  • Opp shop$1.00 check electronic item section.

    • Always heaps of them available on council pickups too.

  • If you're in WA I have some (brand new) you can pick up for $3-$5 depending on length. They're not worth shipping though as I'm sure you'll be able to pick them up cheaper if shipping gets involved.

  • Should your old Ethernet cable, holding down the rubbish down on the back of your ute, be Telstra approved ?
