Windows Surface Pro complete "drops and spills" warranty

I've read links referring to a drops and spills warranty on surface pro tablets, is this available in Australia? Would I have to buy it from Microsoft (store) to get this warranty? I was getting it from job hifi. Is it something I can apply for after purchase?

On a unrelated topic, does installing Windows 10 beta or server 2012 r2 (legitimate) void the warranty?

Also, I'm paying $1330 for i5 8gb 256gb model.

I'm pretty good with my Tech, never lost a phone, I've got a Samsung galaxy note 2 in perfect condition, it's almost 3 years old in perfect condition but this is a pretty expensive bit of kit…

I think they provide extra warranty, if you ask them/pay them for it. Not sure whether it's drops and spills warranty though.

That being said, Surface Pros not a normal tablet, but rather a hybrid of laptop and tablet that you use mostly as a laptop. My point is, it's highly unlikely that you are going to drop it while walking with it, because it's fairly heavy so you'd put it in a bag. I am fairly clumsy and my devices go through fair bit strain but mine (SP1) survived with me and it's working fine (other than the dust build up which I might chase MS about). Also MS is really lenient in terms of services, I've found. So I personally don't think you'd need it.

If you are curious, I think MS Store would have the answer, and they are easily accessible by live chat.

  • Microsoft does provide the 'Microsoft Complete Extended Service Plan for Surface'

    Google it. Price $99 USD
    Protects against accidental drops/spills.

    Unsure if available in Australia.
