Vodafone shonky "unlimited data"

So I've read that many users have been blocked from a weekend of free data due to over usage or using a mobile broadband device to access data.

Firstly, they refer to a fair use policy which is a crock of horse sh!t. It doesn't really say anything.
Unlimited data should be unlimited, not go over our magic unknown limit and we'll block you.

No one knows that magic amount of data that can trigger blockage.

Secondly, for some people who have been blocked for using a Mobile Broadband device, what's saying they have just put it in there to take advantage of 4g or higher speeds their phone may not have?

I hear the phone regulators have been cracking down on not so unlimited unlimited plans, so what's next?
TIO? Complaints to head office? Bikies? Can we put in a group petition to ACCC/TIO?
Cheers tightarses

Post on Voda facebook page regarding someone concerned about going over limit streaming nonstop in HD:

    Vodafone Australia
If you’re playing it non-stop all weekend, streaming HD, we may get in touch and have a chat – there’s no part of the policy that means we cut people off without having a chat about easing up on the use first.

If you’re planning to watch a few shows here and there, then you've got no worries at all.*The policy is much more flexible and user friendly than a set limit of how much data can be used so we don’t have a specific number to give you. *

Based on what you've explained, you’re best off getting back to enjoying your shows in HD than being too concerned about the fair use policy.

    Thanks,
    Nichole

Lol. The people that got cut off should've been contacted first according to this.

  • Keep in mind that it's $10/GB for mobile data anywhere outside of these free weekends so maybe people shouldn't go abusing something just because they can. Like watching 1080p 6000kbps youtube videos all day or using it like a fixed line to save a few 100 GB on their home internet quota…

There's less chance of it being offered ever again.

  • It seems everyone banned was using a mobile broadband device, has anyone had problems tethering a phone or just using too many GB ?

It'd be nice if they were just upfront with their boundaries.

  • I remember reading some where that the 'fair use' policy is based on your usual daily usage. ie. the amount of data used if it wasn't free + a little bit more. If your regular data limit is or you usually download 2GB of data, then suddenly on the free weekend, you download the entire internet, you'll probably hear from them.

    • We only usually do 500mb on the weekend, however these two weekends we did 30gb and haven't heard (so far touch wood)

      • tethering?

          Mobile Broadband device.

  • Thanks Food, my usage for the total of 2 weekends was slightly higher than that FYI.

Just got a ban via Sms for using a Mobile Broadband device.
And its the only weekend we need it (on holiday, wanting foxtel go :/)

They did not SMS me or email me. They couldn't call because it's in a mobile broadband device (which is Vodafone branded of all things - it's their own product).

Being a communications provider is hilarious when they can't even communicate with customers.

I got more than my money's worth out of it over 2 weekends (no phone line yet in new place). However, the false advertising and lack of communication from Vodafone means I'll never be using them in the future for anything that is equally provided by Optus/Telstra. My post-paid phone contract will remain with Optus @ $95/month.

I'm sure they suckered in many people with this campaign. I hope everyone leaves in droves after the promo ends.

  • They gave me this campaign as an existing customer,so that was nice~
120gbytes just w ' 4XW is at least 1 Mbps committed capacity, lte time.

  • I wonder how many people have been adversely affected by this promotion?

  • Has anyone be auto banned this weekend as well?
I was banned last weekend for using it in a Mobile Broadband Modem (~200MB download) and had been in contact with their support via email and was told that It would be unbanned for this weekend and I could use tethering and wifi hotspot as long the sim was in a phone.
I put the sim in a spare phone this morning to have it tethered and it would not connect to the network as if was banned again -_- (The phone + internet was working on the same phone fine during the week).
I have already emailed support, but knowing them they will get back to me until after the weekend.
